The cool, aquatic turquoise of Tile Blue Linen adorned many of Henri Matisse's brilliantly colorful artworks, investing in them a fresh, oceanic light.

One of the most prolific and inventive artists of all time, Matisse's long, successful career spanned nearly an entire century and covered a huge variety of techniques, from drawing and painting to printmaking, collage, sculpture, and design.
Uniting these diverse strands was a lifelong obsession with the emotive and expressive possibilities of color. Aqua Blue was one of his favorites, invoking his internal response to the coastal light of Southern France where he spent most of his adult life. He observed, "Colour helps to express light, not the physical phenomenon, but the only light that really exists, that in the artist’s brain."

At a lighter weight of 3.5 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is woven with finer threads to give it a smoother appearance. Referred to as lightweight or handkerchief linen, this fine, but surprisingly sturdy linen brings new meaning to the term "sheer elegance".

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

Non traditional Easter color

This piece is beautiful. Our family wore shades of this color for Easter this year. This piece is what I made mine from. Love the weight and look of it.

Starr profile image peacock and almost sheer - loveliness

My computer screen did not do justice to this color. I took a chance and received its vibrant beauty. It is peacock teal if there is such a thing and almost sheer, almost and easy to manipulate. I am waiting for thread in the right color but have shrunk the fabric and cut the pattern. I look forward to enjoying just handling this color as I sew. Enjoy it.

Color doesn't match the chip

The fabric is beautiful, the weight is perfect for summer weight skirts. But the color chip is much lighter and brighter than the actual fabric. The fabric is an intense turquoise - lots of green and fairly electric in tone. It's not worth it to ship it back and pay shipping three times for 4 yards of fabric. When color counts, order a sample! I still love the weight and texture and will find something else to do with this fabric...

A wonderful linen to sew

This color is a breathtakingly vivid intense turquoise blue ... a wonderful textile to sew. I chose it in a lighter weight because in my part of Arizona, it rarely gets cool enough to wear a beach jacket at all. (That's why I made 3/4 length sleeves) I know colors are difficult to predict from a computer monitor display ... but my fabric arrived looking identical to my monitor display, and retained its vibrant color after pre-washing on a warm laundry wash-cycle setting.

Better picture of the blouse below. This color is so vibrant and gorgeous, somehow I just can't capture it perfectly...

Summer tunic with leaves appliqué in the same fabric, IL020 TILE BLUE. This linen is lovely to work with, the color is bright and exciting, looks more blue in daylight, greenish in artificial light.

I selected the lighter weight of linen for this beach jacket because of the hot weather we experience here in our part of Arizona. The color is a lovely intense turquoise, was wonderful to sew.
