POPPY SEED Linen’s cold, steel grey often made its way into British painter Roger Hilton’s abstract art, suggesting the dark, muffling clouds of an oncoming storm.

His art was an intuitive reflection of his outer and inner worlds, simultaneously capturing the metallic shades of the British weather, and his emotional responses to them. He said, “Painting is feeling. There are situations, states of mind, moods etc., which call for some artistic expression; because one knows that only some form of art is capable of going beyond them to give an intuitive contact with a superior set of truths.”

At a lighter weight of 3.5 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is woven with finer threads to give it a smoother appearance. Referred to as lightweight or handkerchief linen, this fine, but surprisingly sturdy linen brings new meaning to the term "sheer elegance".

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

Yes, you can wash all of our fabrics at home. Warm gentle wash and low dryer heat setting is recommended. Please see our helpful article on the topic here: support.fabrics-store.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000218543-Fabric-Care-Pre-washing-and-Washing-your-Cotton-and-Linen-Fabrics

I want to make cupboard curtains for a cement cupboard. And I am looking for a true dark grey not blueish. Will this be appropriate for under counter cupboard curtains/skirts. How many times must I calculate the width. x1.5? Thank you so much Mariana

Hello Mariana, This fabric is commonly used for many different types of curtain applications, so I'm sure you'll enjoy it for your project. As for the width, it really comes down to personal choice and preference for the gathering look. Generally we recommend x1.5 as the minimum.

How transparent is this fabric once washed?

The linen will tighten with washing, but it will still have some transparency that may require a layer depending on your comfort level.

Different from what it's used to be

While I have never bought this shade before, I can tell that it is a different linen from my past purchases. The fabrics in my past orders were crisp and almost somewhat papery with a lovely sheen and a durable feel, while this one is soft but limp and feels less strong. It also has a shorter staple length than the older fabrics because it is fuzzier and more linty. Although this fabric is softer right off the bat and has less tendency to wrinkle, I think I prefer the older version. Was there a change of suppliers?

Fabulous Color!

As always the IL020 is really divine...lightweight and perfect for summer sewing, washes well, dries perfectly (warm the fibers in the dryer...maybe 4-5 minutes... then smooth the damp linen over your bed sheets and allow to finish air-drying), and is a joy to sew. But this new color, it has stolen my heart! It is the perfect neutral. Not too cool (blue) and not too warm (red). I plan to use it as the background for art quilts that require a lighter weight fabric. It will pair perfectly with other, brighter colored fabrics and set them off so that they shine!

This linen was perfect for Matcha Top (from Sew Liberated). It's airy with nice drape for the roomy pattern. 1 1/2 yard was enough to make size 12. I love this color, and can see myself making more shirts with it for work, while lightweight but not as see through as lighter color.
