IL020 Handkerchief Emerald Softened - 100% Linen Fabric - Light (3.7 oz/yd2) - 20.00 Yards, Width 58"
Dense networks of green unfurl across Henri Rousseau's tropical paradise, coloring grasses, plants and leaves with the juicy vibrancy of life. But with the richly enigmatic jewel tone of EMERALD Linen he creates mysterious pockets of darkness, where magic and danger lurk in the shadows.
Rousseau never left France, so his mystical jungle scenes are entirely imagined, but he made frequent visits to the Parisian hothouses, the natural history museum and the zoo, places that lit up his imagination with visions of another time and place. Describing the transformative power of the Parisian gardens he wrote, "When I step into the hothouses and see the plants from exotic lands, it seems to me that I am in a dream."
At a lighter weight of 3.5 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is woven with finer threads to give it a smoother appearance. Referred to as lightweight or handkerchief linen, this fine, but surprisingly sturdy linen brings new meaning to the term "sheer elegance".
The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

Customer Questions and Answers
Love the beautiful green dress Emma made! What is the vintage pattern brand and number? Thank you very much! Lisa
It is a lovely dress our customer used her own pattern and she did not share the pattern with us.
In reply to the question about the lovely green dress pattern, it might be 1950s McCalls Sewing Pattern 9189. However, I'm just guessing.
Thank you for sharing that with us it will be very helpful to those wanting this pattern or one that is similar.
How sheer is this fabric? Is it suitable to use for clothing without a lining?
This fabric is a little sheer in the white and light tones. The mid to darker tones are opaque.
I plan to wash this fabric before I cut my pattern pieces; how much width shrinkage should I expect? (Cool water wash, medium iron)
We have tested our fabrics in a warm water wash and low heat dry and achieve approximately 7% shrinkage. If you have a High efficiency machine, we recommend two washes or increasing the water level to ensure your fabric is completely submerged in water while washing to ensure complete shrinkage.
Beware that this green has a strong blue undertone. I had been planning to match it with yellows and browns. Then I pre-washed the fabric (with hot water) and a lot of the green muted and the bluer tones came out. I also bought Blue Apatite, and they are just a few shades different after washing. So now I'm thinking of using it with the Coral color.
The first thing I do when I receive my fabric is wash and dry it. At that point I make the decision what I will make. I am going to use this for a summer dress (pattern #1) and highlight with embroidery. I am in love with this weight linen. Wrinkles, no problem! They fall right out. Great way to get through this heat.
I just completed a top out of this linen. I have yet to wear it, but it turned out beautifully. can't wait to wear it. Love the comfort of wearing linen. Have bought linen from fabrics-Store for years.
