IL020 Handkerchief Camel Softened - 100% Linen Fabric - Light (3.7 oz/yd2) - 20.00 Yards, Width 58"
British painter Roger Hilton was one of the most pioneering abstract painters of his generation, emerging out of the mid-20th century with a bold and uncompromising style.
Striking passages of color are a vital ingredient in Hilton’s paintings, particularly the warm ginger tone of CAMEL Linen, which appears again and again throughout his career. This color’s ambiguous shade could allow Hilton to invoke various real-world references, from the warmth of human skin to the glow of golden earth caught glinting in the sun.
At a lighter weight of 3.5 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is woven with finer threads to give it a smoother appearance. Referred to as lightweight or handkerchief linen, this fine, but surprisingly sturdy linen brings new meaning to the term "sheer elegance".
The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

Customer Questions and Answers
What is the gsm of the handkerchief weight linen?
3.7 oz/yd² is approximately 125.45 gsm.
Hi there, I am a novice at sewing. but am highly interested in sewing my own clothing. With this fabric being 100% linen, how easily does it wrinkle? And what fabric blend can you recommend to lessen wrinkling?
Linen will wrinkle with some, like this one and 1C64 wrinkling a bit less due to the construction. Even our linen/cotton blends will wrinkle it just depends on your comfort level.
This fabric was perfect for my cotehardie design for one of my Medieval gowns. It sewed up perfectly and quickly, and was so comfortable for our hot humid days in the 13th century shire we inhabit on weekends. The color is so rich that I'd not describe it as camel which to me is a lighter yellowish brown. This is, as one reviewer stated, an end of October leaf, or a caramel--- without the calories!
I am a medieval living history costumer. When I purchased this fabric, I had expected it to be more "rustic," something you might use for everyday working clothes. But after I washed it, it retained the most beautiful sheen. I simply don't have the heart to use such gorgeous fabric for everyday wear, so I will save it for something more "fancy," with lots of embroidery. But all is not lost--I have lots of natural (all three weights) for more "rustic" wear.
This order arrived so quickly! I fell in love with the color immediately. Someone commented that it was more brown than orange. Imagine instead the leaves of late October. It's gorgeous! The weight is perfect. Though it is very lightweight, it isn't see through at all. I put my hand underneath it and couldn't see it. It's absolutely perfect for Southern California hot summers either as a blouse or a dress. Can't wait to choose which!
I love this color and recently added it to my in stock color options for my custom sewing shop (Alcockthreads on Etsy and Instagram). The 3.7oz is perfect for the dresses I've been making out of it.. and my customers love it!
Love this soft camel lightweight linen fabric. It is so easy to work with and is ideal for kid's clothing.
