REDWOOD linen's deep, throaty red encircles Vigee Le Brun's subjects, swooping flames of scorching fire around their hair, waists, and bodies.
Best known as court painter to Marie Antoinette, French 18th century artist Vigee Le Brun was one of the leading portraitists of her day, capturing European aristocrats, actors, and writers with her distinctively stylised, ostentatious Rococo touch. Dashing shades of red were her secret weapon, striking enigmatic danger and beauty straight into the heart of her sitters.

At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

Beautiful color

The color of this fabric is really, really beautiful and the fabric is the perfect weight for a warm-weather dress, though it can be winterized with leggings and a long-sleeved shirt. I made some modifications to the Tessuti Athina top pattern, making it knee length, and adding external pockets, a drawstring casing, and long sleeves.

Beautiful

Way more red than I was hoping, but a rich and beautiful color nonetheless.

Randy profile image WOW! THIS COLOR IS GORGEOUS!

I finally got my fabric (after a kerfuffle with my new address - NEVER do this before coffee!) - and WOW! I LOVE IT!! It's so soft and I LOVE the color! Being in the SCA, I cannot wait to see what I can make it into! The rich color is a good choice for early period garb, and I can't wait to see what other colors will go with it!

Lovely summer bathrobe!

I have become totally addicted to these linens, after managing to refrain from fabric buying for years. I used this color for a summer-weight robe; after seeing it, my husband has requested one for himself! His will be in Atmosphere. I'll try to post a photo. I find the photos that people attach to be the most reliable way to see the true color of the fabrics.

Athena profile image Perfectly named color!

I purchased a generous 1.5 yards of Redwood from 'doggie bags': it has a slightly finer weave than some of the other IL019 color runs I've bought in the past almost making me regret using it for a simple pet bed! The color is perfectly named Redwood as it is a classic reddish-rust color. The photo, at right, of pillowslips made using Redwood & Oasis displays the color more truly-to-life on my MacBook Pro's screen than does the color swatch photo from above, which looks darker on a Mac than it actually is. Redwood is a wonderful, classic color and as always the quality of the fabric is the best I've found from any linen supplier, online or otherwise.

This is absolutely the most perfect color for me. I'm a 60? With light olive complexion and I've gone grey YUCK! So I do platinum blonde with a darker root. This beautiful color sets off my coloring without being that harsh red color. You know what I mean, there aren't to many blue undertones or orange undertones. It's just right. I really think anyone could wear this color. As always this middle weight softened is perfect for just about anything. I've used it here for a Lagenlook tunic to wear loose trousers or leggings. And my ever present scarf.

This is a favorite dress already in my closet. It can be worn 4 ways, including this one, with the wrap in the front. The Redwood linen is perfection, and I'm curious how it compares to the English Rose.

Cynthia Fong's Linen Swing Blouse in Redwood. I lengthened the back of the frill panel and added a little detail at the cuffs.

pretty hard to tell English Rose apart from Redwood. Both are gorgeous!

NOTE: Outfit made by Nancee Beattie. Used the Redwood for the hosen on this 15th Century outfit. Not only was the linen comfortable and a lovely color, but it was breathable enough to wear in HOT Texas heat! Love this color, love this linen.
