American painter Cy Twombly’s brilliantly expressive artworks often feature searing hot pinks like RED BUD Linen. This ardent color blazes like an angry fire in the belly of his art, igniting life into them like hot breath to a flame.

Twombly was a leading member of late Abstract Expressionism, emerging out of 1950s New York with his own unique take on painterly, action-based expression. His particular strand of messiness was characterized by calligraphic marks and energized movement, merging primitive forms of ‘proto-writing’ with aqueous streaks and swipes of paint. Twombly believed deeply that these marks were so much more than the sum of their parts, expressing ancient, foundational forces at the heart of the human condition.

At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

I am not a red nor a pink person but every once in a while I try to have something in those colors to reach to. I thought redbud would be a little more red but I do like the color quite well. It has just a hint of warmth that better suits my coloring than a bluey pink would. I picked up a 1.5 yd. piece in a doggie bag purchase. I used the Peppermint Magazine In the Folds wrap shirt pattern. Very happy with the results.

pink red

Red Bud is a lovely clear pinky light red. The pieces I have washed up nicely into the standard texture of IL019 linens. It harmonizes nicely with IL019 beet, and contrasts attractively the dark blues (cobalt, medieval etc) I especially like it as an accent color for IL019 dress blue. (It clashes with the true red of ILO19 Crimson, and it makes the muted blue red of ILO19 Wildcherry look more muddy & purple)

Pants in the Red Bud linen. It's more of a raspberry color. My cut softened up beautifully with one laundering.
