Swiss Symbolist painter Ferdinand Holder’s art is a homage to the wonders of the Swiss landscape, conveying jagged, snow-peaked mountains and glossy mirrored lakes with flat panels of vivid, jewel-like color.
The indigo of NIGHTSHADOW BLUE Linen was his favorite color for conveying depth and shadow, which he brought in to describe shadowy mountain ranges and dark valleys, investing into them a quietly brewing mystery and magic. He believed art should simplify the real world into harmonious order and symmetry, distilling it into its more raw, elemental essence, noting, “the artist’s mission is to give shape to what is eternal in nature, to reveal its inherent beauty.”

At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

My new favorite?

Well, it seems every time I order linen from fabricsstore.com I think I've found my new favorite color. Up until now my favorite has been the Wisteria, and I do love the Sphinx as well. This Nightshadow Blue, though, oh my! This is a rich, beautiful color that will work for all seasons and in so many applications. It's darker than chambrey, lighter than indigo, and a bit of a chameleon in that it changes with the light from blue/gray to blue/lavender. I've made a fitted shirt and will be ordering more of this color soon. I think it would be gorgeous for fall/winter bedding.

This is such a beautiful neutral color.....great uniform for me since everything goes well with the color! May make a dress first off, but will definitely be purchasing more fabric for other wardrobe needs. Weight is perfect for at least 10 months living in South Carolina.

Nightshadow perfect color for Sashiko embellishment

Traditional stitching on this lovely darker blue is going to be relaxing, and look great for "visual mending" premarked patches. Running stitch with more than one possible design. There is a two part tutorial in The Thread that shows simple techniques and variations too. Sorry I didn't think to write down the name of the author. It was very helpful to me!

I love the look of denim and chambray clothing especially in the spring and summer. This linen has that soft look of worn denim. Can't wait to make into a fabulous pair of linen jeans

I had to move my dress form around until I found lighting that showed the true color of this gorgeous Nightshadow Blue, and this is pretty close on my computer. As always, excellent quality linen, lovely to work with and super comfy to wear.
