KENYA linen's rich shade of red ochre seems intrinsically bound to nature, invoking rich, fertile soil and the careworn bark of ancient trees.
Kenyan contemporary painter Michael Armitage has embraced this earthy color to convey his homeland of Kenya, illustrating its wild and untameable beauty with an evocative array of ochre and sienna tinged hues. Amidst his fantastical, wild scenes people from modern life are intermingled with the ghosts of the past, crossing back and forth over one another to form a prismatic and complex vision of Kenyan identity today.

At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.

Our FS Signature Finish was developed exclusively for us using a special process that makes this linen super soft with a comfy, classic look you'll love at first sight.

As a bonus, this process removes almost all of the initial shrinkage, giving you more fabric to get your projects done.
This finish makes the linen as soft as butter. Yep, 100% linen that feels and drapes and sews as no linen you have ever encountered. Because the fabric has been pre-shrunk for you - it will be less than the base cloth width.

What is the difference between the finishes? Premier finish, signature finish, softened, rustic? Thank you. I love your linen. Julie

Signature Finish has gone through a hot wash process with softener to make it super soft and most of the shrinkage has been removed. Expect less than 3 percent residual shrinkage. Premier Finish is a softening process where we use a special machine that helps break down the hand to give these linens a very smooth look and feel. It feels like butter - silky smooth. Although this linen has gone through agitation with a softener, it has not been laundered. You will need to consider shrinkage here as well , 7-10 percent.

Abby's skirt seems to be more of a rust color. Is this more accurate then the fabric pictured?

No the swatch of the color is closer to what the color Kenya is. The picture shows the color lighter than it is.

Accurate color

I found the color on the website to be true to the actual color of the fabric. Looking at photos submitted by other viewers was helpful also. The quality of the linen was fantastic as usual. Absolutely loved my finished garment!

Wonderful Colour

Such a gorgeous earthy colour that is reminiscent of the soil on Prince Edward Island and other maritime provinces. Very grounding.

Beautiful color

This linen is a beautiful earthy color, very similar to Spice. When I hold them next to each other Spice is very slightly brighter, but they could easily be two different dye lots of the same color. I'm not sure what I will do with it yet, but it would make lovely clothing, napkins or tablecloth.

I love this linen!

Such a beautiful color and was a dream to work with. I have made 8 or 9 tunics this spring and summer to go with my white linen pants and crop pants. Here in Texas linen is king year round.

I am a true lover of your linen and being on a limited budget had to wait for a sale to purchase Kenya. Wow! was it worth the wait! I love this color, it reminds me of a dark caramel candy, with it's rich earthy color. Just beautiful and the quality I've come to expect from you. Thanks for offering these exquisite colors in the best quality linen at a price I can afford.

Dish Towels - Very Pleased

I wanted new 100% linen dish towels and was unable to find any at a reasonable cost in a color I liked. I ended up going with IL019 in Kenya and could not be more pleased! It's a great weight and very absorbent. I also ended up covering a dish mat for the items I hand wash. It's worked out perfectly.

It's official. I am incapable of sewing a basic. I *had* plans to create a nice simple Charlie Blouse, but...here we are with this angled color-blocked beautiful madness. What should have been a nice quick sew turned my project with three pattern pieces into nine, lots of confusion about what goes where, and twice the cutting time.

A wrap dress I made using the Kenya. To the skirt hem, I added tzitzits using 4C22 rustic royal purple and purple ribbon using IL020 Handkerchief rustic royal purple. Pattern used was McCall's M7406 which I added pockets to and added a cuff instead of the elastic.

I made my first purchase ever of linen fabric, thru Fabrics-store.com, a few months ago. Made several more purchases since! I am really pleased with the fabric; the way it handles, the way it drapes, the way it feels before and after completing a project! Iʻm encouraging my niece, who is a quilter, to make her first garment out of your linen. Pointed her to your free Agustina pattern. Here is Agustina in IL019 Kenya FS Signature Finish. I love this color! Agustina is cropped, however, I added a couple inches to the length. I also like a looser sleeve, so I sized up for the arms.

I traced my original Riva Fabrics-Store pattern pieces with the extra length added to equal this new length onto some oversized tissue paper I had on hand. If you don't have this option, you could simply lay the current pieces down and just use your measuring tools and use a chalk pen or a pencil to draw the proper cut line on the fabric. I was able to do this project with the two yards of FS Kenya Midweight Linen. that I already had on hand.

I'm back today with a fun, juicy hack for you. I recently made a Nico bias cut dress and admitted to you... I'm not good with making basics. I used the Nico dress pattern to make the camisole and couldn't resist adding a little of my own flare with a layered tulip-style back hack. This was a really easy hack that I would recommend to anyone! I chose Kenya red midweight linen

For my fabric choice I used two shades of the Signature Finish linen from Fabrics-store in colors Lagoon and Kenya, which were perfect for this project in that they are soft, midweight, and opaque, with beautiful drape. This has been my favorite finish and weight of linen to work with and there are some new colors to chose from!

ABBEY wrap cardigan will always be timeless, perfect with many things in my wardrobe and be sure to become one of the favorite items! This cardigan turned out to be so comfortable, ideal for a hot summer day, it can be worn as a dress or as a tunic, with shorts and a tank finished off with a pair of sneakers. For sewing I used FS KENYA Midweight Linen, I have loved this rich brick shade for a long time. I would also like to sew a heavyweight linen long sleeve cardigan to wear in the fall.

This color is so beautiful in the sun. It gathers and pleats so nice and feels soft and breathable for summer.
