Henri Matisse had an enduring obsession with BRIGHT COBALT's distinctive shade of blue, observing with fascination how it could ignite his paintings, prints, and paper cut-outs with the luminescence of the sea and sky.
Throughout his long and prolific career Matisse shifted through an array of adventurous styles and subjects, but a a burning passion for color, particularly blue, was the one constant that pulled all his inventiveness together, and it has remained his greatest legacy since. “My choice of colours,” he wrote, “is based on felt experience.”

At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

A lovely fabric, but the color faded FAST

I opened the package to find this fabric, a beautiful bright blue. After I washed it twice in cool water and dried on medium heat, the color faded to a dull, washed out blue. I definitely NOT would purchase this color as it is. A lovely, soft fabric, unfortunately the color is not color-fast.

Color name inaccurate

The fabric is wonderful but the color name is misleading. ‘Cobalt' is a specific shade of blue - it is dark and bright. The actual color of the fabric is more like a marine blue or French blue. Cute color names should be avoided and very accurate color names used because everyone's monitor shows colors a little differently. I suggest using the Pantone system to accurately communicate about colors.

Bright Cheerful Blue

This is such a wonderful blue, that I purchased a larger amount than usual! I'm actually gifting it to a friend who also sews. It is similar to colors I've seen her wear before. Although I'm guessing it will end up a garment that is travel friendly, it will be fun to see how she chooses to bring it to life. J

For my color blocked vision, I decided on two beautiful shades of blue (also my power colors) in a midweight linen. The colors Provence and Bright Cobalt evoke confidence and when together, the dress is unique to me. The medium weight linen is my favorite to work with due to its versatility. It's smooth to sew with, presses easily with a bit of steam and feels amazing on my skin (especially in hot climates). The signature finish is a process that pre-shrinks the material as well as softens the fabric before sewing. After several toiles, wearable and not, I ended with this birthday dress!

I've been a diehard Fabrics-Store fan for years, and have relied on ya'll's linen almost exclusively. The five ounce weight is incredibly versatile, and I've made both top and bottom pieces with it in the past. It's easy to work with, presses cleanly, and I love the wrinkled, lived-in look the fabric gets with continued wear.
