4C22 Rustic Tawny Port Softened - 100% Linen Fabric - Heavy (7.1 oz/yd2) - 20.00 Yards, Width 57"
Blushing crimson reds like that of TAWNY PORT Linen pulsate across Dorothea Tanning's fantastical paintings, lending them the passionate turbulence of erotic dreams and nightmares.
One of only a
a handful of female Surrealists to find success in mid-20th
century Europe and America, Tanning conjured up brilliantly bizarre
scenarios where strange creatures inhabit curious realms beyond our own,
filled with mystical, private symbolism and erotic that we can often
only guess at. Tanning wrote, "Keep your eye on your inner world."
At a heavier weight of 7.1 ounces this 100% linen is referred to as Rustic due to its more textured look and feel. Durable and perfect for projects that require just a bit more substance.
The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

Customer Questions and Answers
What thread color matches this fabric color? Thanks
Gutermann Sew all Thread color 570 - Rust is a good match.
Well, I bought this more or less to broaden my horizons - ha! - as it's a color that I know I can wear well, but that has never really appealed to me. However, after having made a pair of slim ankle pants, I've decided I LOVE IT! I'm going to get some more, as I want to make a pair of wide-legs, too. AND I have a cotton dobby print that coordinates BEAUTIFULLY with this fabric. Who knew? :o)
I ordered 1.5 yards of this fabric from the doggie bag, not knowing if I would really like the color. I washed and dried it on hot twice. No need to iron, and the color stayed vibrant. I actually really like it- it is a rich burgundy. It was so easy to sew and drapes beautifully.
Love this fabric. Perfect for my apparel line.
I always use 4c22 when I am making a fighting tunic to go under armor. This has a really nice weight , a full rich color.
Very disappointed in this fabric; had high hopes and so many projects in mind for this if it had been nice as it is difficult to find linen that is not overly thin. ---------- Fabric store is calling this (quote) rustic. This implies a charm it doesn't have. Looks like a yucky-to-just-okay upholstery fabric. Color is dead; I will have to dye to give it life. Looks like a cotton/linen as it has no linen-like subtle glow. Probably 57 inches because it was intended manufactured for upholstery; that's my guess. -------- Low thread count from a bulky yarn. Appearance is more like a cotton/linen as it has no linen-like subtle glow. I have had linens of similar weight before that were suitable for lovely garments. This has zero charm. ---- (I am not signing my name so Fabric Store is signing this [sic] Anonimous.)
love this material and the trousers I made from it.
I love this fabric, so lovely to stitch on, makes beautiful curtains and home accessories.
Love this fabric. Easy to work with & looks beautiful in the finished product.
All of your fabrics are beautiful! 4C22 is a bit heavier so it was great for this project. Thanks!!!
Nice fabric, made a night gown out of it, thinking about making a kimono to go with it.
I made this using the FS free Paola jacket pattern, with several adaptations. I cut it longer and a bit more shapely, eliminated the top pockets, added a back vent and sleeve buttons, and finished the seams with bias tape. It was worth all this extra effort because it's a great ‘colorful neutral' that will go with almost everything, I have a bespoke garment, and the fabric will last and last. I wash on warm, shake, hang, smooth the seams, and let it dry and it's good to go for the next wearing!
Fighting tunic, embellished with embroidery and the saga of the Boca Burger, cuff runes one says it is good to be king, the other ouch my thumb. The saga are the runes that run completely around near the hem edge, each seam is embellished with embroidery, hand woven trim purchased from White Wolfe and Phoenix , This picture is part of the back, also embellished with a fire breathing embroidered dragon.
