The inky depths of INSIGNIA BLUE linen seeped dark stains into Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai's evocative landscapes, lending them deep bass tones that hum with melodic resonance.
The color, known today as Prussian, or Berlin blue, swept across Europe in the 18th century, causing what some called a "blue fever", as it infiltrated painting, wallpaper prints, stamps and even the Army Uniform for the Prussian military.

At a heavier weight of 7.1 ounces this 100% linen is referred to as Rustic due to its more textured look and feel. Durable and perfect for projects that require just a bit more substance.

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

One of my favorites!

Rustic, softened linen is one of my favorite fabrics with which to sew. It's a dream both to work with and especially to wear. It hardly wrinkles even after hours of sitting on a plane!

Christi profile image Used my points

I bought 6 yards of this with my accumulated points. I'm making my daughter a pants & hooded sweat shirt. She picked the colors. I will share the finished garments. I would not have been able to afford to buy fabric for her otherwise. This is such a good program. Loving the linen quality & this customer service oriented store.

Beautiful indigo blue

This shade of blue is just what I was looking for. I would liken it to indigo blue. I bought it for an apron, but have enough to try some sashiko embroidery, perhaps for a pillow. I love the heavier weight for aprons.

Kirsten profile image a good neutral mid range Blue

definitely in the "denim" range of colors, this blue can be used as a neutral by most people (cool or warm). i am a cool/neutral that is, i favor cool tones but can wear some neutrals and warms. this color goes well with most complexions, and is also going to act as a good neutral blue in most home decor.

Beautiful bottomweight linen, third color for me

I have so far made the Yanta Overalls from Helen's Closet and the Free Range Slacks from Sew House 7 in different colors of the heavyweight linen, and it's FANTASTIC. Excited to make the Pietra Pants from this color, very accurate to what showed on my computer. A lovely dark serene blue

Low thread count shows

Nice texture but the low thread count shows. Will do fine for napkins that i bought them for but even that... they feel and look a bit cheap only because the dark blue does indeed bleed and leaves whiter/lighter threads exposed.

Careful, the dye bleeds

I,m very happy with the color and the texture of this cloth. However, I have run it through the washer seven times, with an extra rinse cycle, and it's still bleeding blue dye. I put a new scrap of white cotton in with each load, and each time I see that the scrap has turned blue. (Less blue than at the start.) I will just have to keep washing this one separately for a while.

I loved working with this linen! The weight was perfect, and the colour has as much depth as I had hoped it would have. I think it worked so well to provide a little bit of structure to my make while still having some drape as it moves. The slightly softened feel is really beautiful and makes it a dream to sew with and wear.

Insignia Blue, 7.1 oz. Made this outfit for my daughter only from measurements she sent me, then mailed it to her. I adjusted patterns, said a few prayers and this is what she got. She absolutely loves it. I used NEW LOOK 6271 for the pants, NEW LOOK 6602 for the top, KWIK SEW K4248 for the hood, GREAT COPY 2720 for the kangaroo pocket. On to the next outfit for her. She LOVES the linen. I am so happy & relieved.

Sashiko is a mending technique traditionally applied to sewn garments that need repair. It has since evolved into a highly decorative craft. When used mainly for the latter purpose, I find it easier to stitch the embroidery before sewing up the garment, especially when there is a clear idea for embroidery placement and design. You can find out more about this technique here: blog.fabrics-store.com/2021/03/18/hitomezashi-sashiko-on-the-ashton-top-part-1-grid-preparation/

The CHARLIE pattern collection came to me at the perfect time. I've been looking for a classic blouse pattern with a twist for the summertime, and the Charlie short sleeve blouse fits the bill. For the top, I used 2 yards of FS APRICOT Midweight Linen in Signature Finish. For the pants, I wanted a little bit more weight and body so I chose FS INSIGNIA BLUE Heavyweight Linen. The softened heavyweight linen has been my go-to fabric for all kinds of garments – especially for bottoms. The linen has the perfect balance between drape and structure that will hold the pleats and cuffs well.
