4C22 Rustic Crimson Softened - 100% Linen Fabric - Heavy (7.1 oz/yd2) - 20.00 Yards, Width 57"
Vibrant, seductive and indulgent, crimson linen's entrancing hue brought
pulsing lifeblood into Jan Van Eyck's iconic paintings. Red dye was
rare and exotic in 15th century Europe, making it a potent
symbol of luxury, wealth and prominence. In his real life portraits Van
Eyck draped figures and interiors in this decadent red hue to signify
their high society status, while his religious commissions tapped into
red's ancient significance with spiritual characters bathed in glowing
cardinal reds.
At a heavier weight of 7.1 ounces this 100% linen is referred to as Rustic due to its more textured look and feel. Durable and perfect for projects that require just a bit more substance.
The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

Customer Questions and Answers
Is the color of this linen the same as the color of IL019 All-purpose Crimson Fs Signature Finish (which I bought in August of 2021)? I'm looking for an exact match color wise.
Our colors will be very similar but we do not guarantee exact matches for different dye lots. Please order a sample of this fabric to see it in person.
Would you know the thread brand and color number that matches the Crimson Linen Thank you for your help
Gutermann 408 True red is a great match. This is number 365 in Gutermann Mara.
Does this fabric work for napkins? Is it heavy enough?
Yes, this fabric is a lovely sturdy fabric for napkins which is also soft enough for the face.
This fabric is absolutely beautiful! The color is a brilliant crimson. Softer than most linen fabric. My order arrived quickly, in fact sooner than I expected. I do historical cosplay and try to avoid using synthetic fabrics in my builds. So glad I found your company! Thank you for your efforts to provide a product that is environmentally friendly and sustainable.
I bought this to see if it would be suitable for nyzynka (darning stitch) embroidery. Evenweave linen is very expensive, and I doubt it was historically common to have completely evenweave fabric anyway. It works for me! I'm making clothes with this, so I washed and dried it 3 times on hot. After that, I counted the threads of the fabric. It shrank to 43 x 38 threads per inch. I've posted a photo as well. (I used my scanner.) Will definitely buy again!
I used this linen to make Christmas stockings for my family this year. I love the color and feel of the fabric, and the stockings hang beautifully. I draped some fabric around the base of the tree as well, and it made for such a terrific, no effort tree skirt,
I received this gorgeous linen a few days ago, and haven't yet had the opportunity to sew with it, but I'm certain it will make up beautifully. The color, and weight are so rich. Looking forward to seeing a new top for myself.
I made the loveliest dress I have ever owned from this heavily crimson linen. It is closely tailored & I had to redo several seams to get it just right, but the fabric held up just fine to all the manipulation I put it through.
I washed and dried the fabric 3 times before making this sample. The thread count is now 43 x 38 threads. I made two samples: one with 2 strands of floss, and one with 3. Each sample has a darning-stitched diamond. On evenweave fabric, the diamonds have 90-degree angles (like a square turned on point). This isn't evenweave, so the diamonds are a little distorted. I'm fine with this level of distortion, personally. Below each diamond is a one-over-one cross stitch, along with 4 two-over-two cross stitches. (I don't really cross stitch, so sorry if that part is wonky.) Hope that helps my fellow stitchers! P.S. The red is brighter than in my picture.
I made the Loren pattern with this linen and I'm quite pleased. The color on my screen reminded me of MAC lipstick in Russian Red, and it is very much like that in person, imo. I'm new to sewing so i don't know how to describe the drape of it exactly. The summery cut of the Loren pattern combined with the "sturdiness" of the fabric make an interesting dress, I anticipate getting a lot of wear out of it, as it can be easily winterized with some warm tights and thick soled boots.
A Doggie Bag creation... Everything but the shirred section is made of heavy-weight Crimson (4C22); the shirred portion of the bodice is made of mid-weight Crimson (IL-019), and was my first attempt at shirring, using the F-S tutorial, except I did 1-inch wide rows vice the half-inch recommended in the tutorial. It turned out pretty good! The shirring adds stretch where needed, and allows for a more fitted finished look overall. The "base" pattern used, in case anyone is wondering, is my own adaptation of Simplicity S0654 (a Patty Reed Design). I've done bedding and towels with Linen... this is my first foray into clothing, and I'm already hooked. :)
