Warm rust reds like AUBURN Linen tinged many of Georgia O’Keeffe’s most famous paintings, invoking dry autumn leaves, worn out buildings or the barren wilderness of old America.

O’Keeffe was one of the most pioneering painters of the early to mid-20th century and she captured the spirit of America during this momentous period in history when industrial change was clashing with a desire to preserve the American outback. Her bold, uncompromising motifs celebrate both strands of thought, coupling rising modernity with sublime visions of nature.

At a heavier weight of 7.1 ounces this 100% linen is referred to as Rustic due to its more textured look and feel. Durable and perfect for projects that require just a bit more substance.

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

Secret signature finish?

This color is really special, like dried red roses and a hint of gold. The fabric arrived so supple and soft that I almost wondered if it was signature finish. I love this, and really hope it comes back in stock.

I used the Marianna jacket pattern size 4/6. It still was boxy on me so I made it into a double breasted jacket and added epaulettes. Love the fabric and the pattern!

The garment I made is an asymmetrical wrap-style padded gambeson I self-drafted to wear under the new Ukrainian steel breastplate and gorget I have. It is one layer of FS AUBURN Heavyweight Linen, two layers of cotton quilt batting, and a lining layer of batik cotton quilted together. I was inspired by medieval gambesons but wanted to go for something custom and asymmetrical, so I made a few mockups and sketched out the quilting pattern myself. It ended up a little bit 1970's sci-fi too, which I don't mind at all.
