Our best selling Grey for many years, this slightly faded version brings a vintage vibe to a tried and true color.  ASPHALT linen mimics the tone of Vicken Parson's cool, mid-grey shadows, a color suggesting the concrete pavements, rain soaked bricks and hardened metal of the urban jungle.

At a heavier weight of 7.1 ounces this 100% linen is referred to as Rustic due to its more textured look and feel. Durable and perfect for projects that require just a bit more substance.

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

I am getting a club chair professionally reupholstered. Is the 7oz fabric/weight appropriate for this project? If I order eight yards, can it be delivered on a roll instead of folded? Thanks!

Due to the extra charges the carriers levy on the oversized tube we only ship 20+ yards on a tube.

is this weight sufficient for reupholstering a couch?

Cynthia • October 12, 2022

Yes it is and is the most popular choice for upholstery projects.

Does your softening process essentially pre-shrink the fabric? I will certainly prewash but I'm figuring yardage pretty closely. If I should expect significant shrinkage, can you guide by how much?

Our softened linen is not laundered and has not been pre-shrunk. Please figure 7-10 percent shrinkage based on our recommended wash instructions that you will find here support.fabrics-store.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000218543-Linen-Care-Pre-washing-and-Washing-your-Linen

Lovely warm grey color

This is a warm grey. Very nice. I made seat cushions for dining room chairs. Looks very nice against the black chairs. Note to self: always order the extra yard! I had to dig into my scraps to find enough for the last few cushion ties. Love this linen. Always looking for a new project to make from linen!

Linen passion

Linen brings me great enjoyment. Elated to find fabric-store. The colors, textures stir up creativity. I'm sole proprietor of Linen & Pearls sewing. I Focus mainly on bridal & formal. Covid down season allowed me time to sew for myself. I've created a collection of linen garments. I literally sigh the depth of colors, softness & living feel of linen. It's such a treat to sew on this fabric. So passionate I named my business after it, long live linen!

Sorry

I thought I was reviewing the Asphalt in the IL019. It was the Asphalt IL019 I made the sheet and pillowcase in.

I love the color of this gray, not to dark and not to light.

I made a sheet and pillowcase from this Asphalt and Optic White. The contrasting colors are just lovely and the drape is beautiful. Perfect linen weight for sheets.

I made this top with fabrics from the Doggie Bag. 1.5 yds of ice-dyed IC64 Shadow Grey and trim is 1 yd of 4C22 Asphalt. I took the pattern from a store bought top in my closet. The cuff detail is multi-line seams on a strip of selvage and band of Asphalt. The neck line is raw with multi-line seams and a small inner facing. Hem is raw Shadow Gray multi-line seams over a band of Asphalt. Comfy, casual and a bit bohemian. Fabric was a joy to work with.

Perfect weight for drapey, loose-fit pants.

I created this pattern because I had a jumpsuit that I just love and wanted to replicate the style. It is so comfortable, and the weight and heft of this linen lends itself perfectly to it. If I could post a second picture, I would show the pearl buttons I used for the back of the bodice that really go nicely with the linen. So addictive!

Great to stitch on. I am creating blocks with hand overdyed wool for a quilt throw. Here's one of the blocks. I'm not sure if I will put two blocks together back to back, fringing the raw edge allowance, so one side is fringed squares of colors and the other is the whimsical artwork or if I will do these the traditional way. Just thought I'd share a concept for anyone wanting to make home decor or a gift. I love that it is strong and softens as it is washed repeatedly.
