Darkness pervades Tacita Dean's artworks, falling over craggy rocks and epic mountains into inky, bottomless wells. BLACK Linen shares Dean's endless black, a colour that intensifies mystery and drama, cloaking and concealing everything it touches.

A finer quality 5.3 ounce medium weight 58 inch wide 100% linen that is woven with finer threads, and an increased thread count. The higher thread count makes 1C64 shrink less and gives this linen a very smooth and luxurious look and feel, earning it the moniker "luxury linen".

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

What is the "requested format" for ordering 1.5 yards? Thanks!

Our linen is sold in full yard increments, the exception would be items sold in the doggie bag section where you will find a variety of lengths.

Underwhelmed with the color

I bought 2.5 yds of this linen for making blouses. I agree with the previous review in that this linen is beautiful as always but the color is not true black. It is really a dark gray, a very faded 'black' linen. I may have to dye it black myself to make it true black.

Not very black?

I ordered two 1-yard pieces from the doggy bag, and while the fabric has a delightful feel and I will have no trouble finding a use for it, it is faded enough before even washing it that I am not sure my sister (who wants a black blouse) would really consider it black. I would almost consider it a charcoal gray, and expect it to fade at least a bit over time. Have others observed this as well? I hope to load a picture that shows it next to a black velvet jacket that is a very plain intense black. My phone gave the linen a reddish cast in one area that I couldn't eliminate, so ignore that, but the upper part of the pictured linen seems true to life.

Beautiful quality

It took a while to arrive, because the carrier did not deliver my first order. I called customer service and they were AWESOME! Long story short they re-send my order without any run around or issues. The fabric is a true deeply saturated black, very soft with a beautiful drape. I machine washed and dried it and the color is still rich and saturated. It leaves a lot of lint in the dryer the first time, like all new linen fabrics. Not an issue for me as i only tumble dry linen one time to shrink it, after that i line dry.

Perfect for my needs

As a musician, I have to wear a lot of black for stage performances. The lights get very hot, and I have found this linen to be the perfect solution to a comfortable, professional look. Pants, tops, skirts, the style is always comfortable in the IC64 linen.

I used this to make a black skirt. I followed the Gypsum Skirt pattern by Sew Liberated. I am very happy with it!

Morgann profile image easy to wear, comfortable, and can transition from casual to dressy

I'm a self-proclaimed fabric snob who will only use fabrics that get better with age and are fun to sew. For this reason, I always choose to sew with natural fibers. My biggest tip for anyone learning to sew and/or starting a capsule wardrobe: make the switch from synthetic fibers to natural fibers! Cotton, linen, wool, and hemp are all good options. You will be amazed at how well these fabrics cut, iron, sew together, and wear. Making that switch is an important step in building a wardrobe that you actually enjoy wearing and will stand the test of time.

Apparel

Just completed my fourth pair of summer shorts. Obviously I love the material. It is as wonderful as advertised. If you have access to a serger sewing shorts time, soup to nuts, takes an afternoon max.

oh my. lux it is :-)

I just wanted to say this stuff is wonderful. Not that the other linen sold here is not just as great. In comparison to 1L019, I would call this the "polished" version. Like comparing a broadcloth cotton to a polished cotton. I've used both 1L019 and 1C64 in black, and the biggest difference is the way the light reflects off the fabric - 1L019 is a flatter, or duller, surface and therefore looks like a darker black. 1C64 also seems to handle more like a lightweight linen, but is more opaque - perfect for a blouse or skirt where you don't want see-through to be an issue. It's lovely stuff to work with. :-)

Must try this fine black linen

Bought this linen based purely on the smooth look, the hand and ease of sewing. Step up to the 1C64 fine linen for your next clothing project and you will not be disappointed!

(1C64 Black Softened Middle). I thought I ordered IL019 Black Softened Middle, it turned out to be a good mistake. Can't have enough black linen outfits. Both Simplicity patterns (top was cropped from a dress pattern S9101; wide legged pants cropped to ankle length S8389). Can't wait to wear on my next travel adventure! I love linen from Fabrics-store!

Happy with this fabric. It is a tad see through in the sun. I'm wondering if the heavy weight would be less transparent. Other than that I am happy with the fabric and color. Turned out great for my project. I love working with linen and wearing it.

Although I have the skills to do my own pattern making, I love to support other crafters, patternmakers, and small business owners when sewing pieces for my own wardrobe. Plus, it saves a lot of time. I was instantly attracted to the Zadie Jumpsuit design because the surplice wrap top.

Jacket and jumpsuit both made from ic64 black linen. I love this linen... soft, opaque, with a lovely smooth surface. It is a pleasure to work with and wear. The jacket pattern is the Wiksten Kimono by Wiksten patterns and the jumpsuit is the Amy Jumpsuit by Closet Case patterns. You can read more about these on my blog, unlikelynest.com

I made these Christmas pillows on my Bernina 880, using the 1C64 black softened linen. The piping was made using IL019 crimson softened linen. Both worked beautifully! The black linen is so soft and has a nice polished look.

I made these overalls (Burnside Bibs pattern from Sew House 7) for my sister out of 1C64 Black linen. After wearing them, she texted me to ask, "Are you a wizard?? How did you get this linen to not wrinkle like crazy?!" The 1C64 linen is beautiful to sew with and wear!
