IS046 Margaux Graphite / Graphite - 73% Linen / 27% Cotton Fabric - Heavy (7.7 oz/yd2) - 20.00 Yards, Width 114"
You may have had the pleasure of working with our trickster weave fabrics - the ones that arrive flat and ordinary, but upon first contact with the washer and drier, they shapeshift into something deliciously textured and absolutely unique.
This cloth is 114 inches wide and 7.7 ounces a square yard which qualifies it at the top of the scale of heavyweight fabrics.
Woven with 73% linen to keep us cool and humidity-free and 27% cotton to be fluffier and voluminous.
The fabric arrives flat with subtle patterns that can be seen in the interweaving of the threads. This weaving technique comes with a delightful surprise once it goes through its first wash and dry. It fluffs up everywhere the threads are not interwoven.
To give it the volume the cloth needs to be a textured - the cloth is built to shrink. The styles will pucker differently based on their weave. They will shrink about 8% on the width ( weft going selvage to selvage) of the cloth and about 24% on the length ( warp of the cloth). Shrinkage is based on a warm wash and low-heat dry.
Design created exclusively for F|S - you just pull the fabric out of the drier and feel like a magician.
This wide cloth is perfect for:
- Robes
- Curtains
- Decorative Pillows
- Jackets
- Throws
- Towels
- Picnic and beach blankets
- and, of course, Bedspreads

Customer Questions and Answers
I made a queen bedspread from 4 yards and while I love it, it's huge. Should I continue washing in warm and drying or can I wash in hot to shrink? Also will it get softer? Thanks!
Hello, If you have only washed this fabric once, and have a high efficiency machine, you may find the fabric will shrink more since newer washers don't use as much water which is key to shrinking it more. You can wash it on hot, but we don't recommend doing this often as it reduces the life of the fabric, and can 'over shrink' the fabric, and removing the natural sheen of the linen. This fabric will get softer with repeated washing and use over time, but to speed this up you can wash with our fabric softener designed especially for our fabrics.
Thinking of this for single drape, but hanging from crosswise grain (vertical stripe) with lining. Has this been done or is it recommended.
Our apologies for the delay I wanted to check with our in-house seamstress - Lauren advised the following : "I don't see this as being an issue to the margeaux since it won't stretch as much on the crosswise grain as it does on the length. I say go for it!"
Should i sew this before i wash it
You can do either. Our customers will often sew first before washing if they are making something like a bed spread and are not cutting up their yardage. If you are wanting specific dimensions, you may like to wash first to allow the fabric to shrink, then cut and sew.
I'd like to make king pillow shams to match my king blanket made out of Margaux fabric..........not sure what dimensions to cut for the sham because of the shrinkage on this fabric. Does anyone know what dimensions to cut the fabric?
If you are making king pillowcases with the stripe running horizontally to match a bedspread, I would cut your main pillowcases pieces to measure 39.5" along the width and 26" along the length of the fabric, plus seam allowance. These dimensions may need to be adjusted to allow for the stretch in the fabric and your desired pillow firmness. Please let us know how you go!
How would this material do to have a 6 inch ruffle on the bottom of a bedspread using the same material
This would work but you will need to pay special attention to the fabric as the texture and weave structure gives this fabric some stretch. This means your ruffled fabric will stretch with the weight of itself if sewn on the grain. the cross-wise grain (with the stripe hanging vertically) would have less stretch.
Hello, Will the other colors of this fabric be restocked? Specifically, the natural, bleached, and indigo blue color? Thank you!
Hello, I don't see this on my restock list, this gets updated monthly, so please keep checking back or email us for updates.
I made this Tina Givens pattern from this fabric and trimmed it in medium weight grey linen. It was a little challenging to work with because it does stretch some. I do suggest you stay stitch any curved seams in order to keep them from stretching. But I love the way it turned out.
