IS046 Margaux Dutch Blue / Cobalt - 73% Linen / 27% Cotton Fabric - Heavy (7.7 oz/yd2) - 20.00 Yards, Width 114"
You may have had the pleasure of working with our trickster weave fabrics - the ones that arrive flat and ordinary, but upon first contact with the washer and drier, they shapeshift into something deliciously textured and absolutely unique.
This cloth is 114 inches wide and 7.7 ounces a square yard which qualifies it at the top of the scale of heavyweight fabrics.
Woven with 73% linen to keep us cool and humidity-free and 27% cotton to be fluffier and voluminous.
The fabric arrives flat with subtle patterns that can be seen in the interweaving of the threads. This weaving technique comes with a delightful surprise once it goes through its first wash and dry. It fluffs up everywhere the threads are not interwoven.
To give it the volume the cloth needs to be a textured - the cloth is built to shrink. The styles will pucker differently based on their weave. They will shrink about 8% on the width ( weft going selvage to selvage) of the cloth and about 24% on the length ( warp of the cloth). Shrinkage is based on a warm wash and low-heat dry.
Design created exclusively for F|S - you just pull the fabric out of the drier and feel like a magician.
This wide cloth is perfect for:
- Robes
- Curtains
- Decorative Pillows
- Jackets
- Throws
- Towels
- Picnic and beach blankets
- and, of course, Bedspreads

Customer Questions and Answers
Is it 3 or 4 yards for a Queen bed?
it is 4 yards.
Should Margaux fabric be washed before sewing robe.
Yes, This fabric should be pre-washed before sewing any garment.
I bought a yard of this and a yard of the lighter blue of the same fabric. I was shorted on the dark blue! I washed them both on cold and lightly dried them. The dark blue is under 30 inches while the light blue of the same material is 34 inches. I should have measured them both before I washed them! I just assumed whoever cut it would do so honestly. The fabric is lovely though. But the difference for what I was going to use it for has ruined it for me.
I purchased 4, 1 yard doggie bag pieces. Serged the 4 sections together, mitered the corners and turned under the edges. It was quite a bit of fabric to work with. Very pleased with the results. Covers my cal king bed with plenty of overhang. Probably could have got away with 3 yards.
Made 2 bedspreads for my vintage Airstream. Looks so good. Perfect weight for summer camping. Love this fabric!
This is the only photo I got of the blue throw before it was gifted. The texture is wonderful and the extra wide fabric makes an extra long throw you can wrap, tuck, puddle or share. I bought 1.5 and 2.0 yard doggie bag pieces. The 1.5 makes a nice size throw, but I come from a tall family and will use the 2.0 for some of them. Like the narrow weave for kitchen towels, all that's needed is a little finishing to make something really special. I used a wing needle and some decorative stitching to add a little detail along the fringed edges, but they'd be great without it too.
