Fluffy, dimensional, and simply a joy to live with - you’ll feel like a sewing maestro when you pull this cloth out of its first dry cycle.

The fabric arrives 84 inches wide, flat and with a subtle basket-like weave. This weaving technique comes with a delightful surprise once it goes through its first wash and dry.

The threads that are woven to make the outside of the squares - they “lift up”.
The threads that are used to weave the inside of the squares - those “drop-down”.

You get a cloth that looks like squares of a freshly made waffle deliciousness. It is just that yummy!

This cloth is wider than our usual selection at 84" wide.  Once it is washed - the cloth will shrink to get that dimensional waffle surface.
Approximate shrinkage - the width of cloth shrinks 17% (weft of the fabric) and 28% on the length ( warp of the fabric). Shrinkage is based on a warm wash and low-heat dry.

Waffle weave cloth is great for:
- Bath towels
- Robes
- Throws
- Duvet covers
- Pillow shams
- Lounge garments
- Decorative pillows
- Curtains
- Beach towels
- Picnic blankets
- items that need to have dimension and softness

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

Re: orchid tint waffle linen. The Amalfi Robe pattern requires 3 7/8 yds fabric for size 16. Do I need to order more than 3 7/8 yds to accommodate shrinkage? Someone mentioned adding 5" to each seam before cutting unwashed fabric. And is it better to wash before or after cutting out a pattern for a robe?

Hello, we recommend per-washing your waffle fabric prior to sewing any pattern that you will sew in this fabric to make it ready to sew up. Once the fabric has been pre-washed you can cut your pattern out at your preferred size with no pattern adjustments. To figure out your required yardage, simply add 28% to your pattern's yardage to allow for shrinkage. is it recommended to wash this fabric before you cut to shrink to maximum and does it ravel ? I want to make a patchwork bedspread or throw for a queen size bed Dianne

If you would like to sew a patchwork quilt from this fabric, it is a good idea to pre-wash it to shrink it. For more information about pre-washing our fabrics please see this article on our Help Center: support.fabrics-store.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000218543-Linen-Care-Pre-washing-and-Washing-your-Linen

Perfect

I noticed on reviews of this fabric in the bleached color that there were some customers who had difficulties. In my home, we do love the textural feel for wash clothes and bath towels. Bath soap lathers quickly, washcloths rinse and air dry very fast. Towels and washcloths made from this do not mildew or mold like terrycloth ones are prone to do. When sewing these, do not wash the fabric until after you have finished sewing. It is easier to handle before it has been washed. I measured for wash clothes at 5 inches larger than I wanted the finished product to measure, and the same for robes, towels, etcetera. One inch was for the double folded 1/2" hems, about two inches allowed for shrinkage, and I allowed about two additional inches for the waffling effect after washing and drying. After sewing, I washed and dried them in hot water, dried in high heat. The fabric will soften. It will not become like microfiber soft—it is always going to retain some of its rustic characteristics. The cloths and towels will not retain their perfect square shapes after washing and drying nor will they lie as smooth and flat like when you first bought this. The completed bath linens will require very little linen shelf space, they are naturally and gently exfoliating, and they absorb water so fast — it's like nothing else. The uniquely rustic appeal of this fabric in any bathroom linens collection enhances and personalizes decor. Next? A lovely rustic set of bedspreads, summer sofa throws, and bathrobes for everyone. I will never go back to terry toweling or microfiber.

Thanks so much for your review and for sharing your experience with your IS010 waffle weave fabric! I wanted to note that we've been able to maintain the shape of our Waffle weave towels by washing them in warm water on a gentle cycle since hot water can over shrink this fabric, causing the fabric to ripple at the hems, removing the natural sheen in the linen content and making them a little rougher.

Wow, wow, wonderful

Where have all the seamstresses gone, or seamsters... as a confirmed linoholic I wish I knew how to sew. Well I can sew a straight seam, which is what I did as soon as this waffle linen arrived. I bough three colors 1 yard each. Washed each separately on hot. Taking them out of the dryer was amazing they were like clouds. Hemmed and added towel loops. They are perfect bath towels. Two notes...shrinkage made them exactly a store bought bath towel size, My next ones will be 1yard and a half. The orchid pink is more of a rose beige. 5 star ⭐️ is what this product deserves.

So Luxurious!

I made a set of bath towels out of this fabric yesterday. They are absolutely beautiful! So luxurious... soft, fluffy, and they dry so quickly! I stopped in to Fabrics-Store today to leave a review and I see that this wonderful fabric is on sale! I'm thrilled! Going to make more sets of towels for my children and a robe for myself. Please don't hesitate especially if you live in FL where it is so humid and thick terry towels take so long to dry that they start to mold. Towels out of this fabric is the answer to that problem.

So much fun!

I bought one yard each of Orchid, White and Nine Iron, just to try it. So far I made a hand towel. I cut it square, 20" X 20" sewed it and washed its, as a test. It came out soft and plushy and the final size is 12" X. 15". Today I came back for more but what happened to the Nine Iron colour??? It was so beautiful.

I forgot to add: when I added extra inches, it was the same amount on each side, ie: five added inches on each side of a towel or washcloth. For robes, I made each pattern piece larger by 4" plus desired seam allowance all around. Doubled the desired hem amount. It worked.

Robe made in the Orchid Tint Waffle cloth - Premium FS pattern for it is scheduled to release early summer 2021.
