Customer Questions and Answers
How much shrinkage, length and width can I expect from this fabric?
Figure 7 to 10% in width and length using our pre-wash instructions.
how sheer is this fabric is it good for sheer curtains
It is sheer enough to be used for sheer curtains - please zoom in on the photo so you can see the transpernacy of this item.
Does this fabric shed a lot of lint when washed? I was planning to buy your gauze weight linen IL030 until I saw the mentions of "lots of lint" and the possibility of blocking one's plumbing!
This fabric will not drop as much lint as some of our linen fabrics. In our experience we have not had excess lint troubles when washing following our recommendations.
Hi, I bought some medium weight linen (5.3oz/yd) to make a king size comforter. I will be using wool batting and want to make sure I don't get any bearding or wool tufts poking out. I'd like to order a second layer for the blanket and I was looking at the very light linen/cotton blend. I saw that it is sheer, almost like a gauze. Would that add enough layer with the medium weight linen to keep bearding from happening?
This particular fabric is quite open in weave and gauzy, so may not provide enough of a barrier for the wool. I would try the IS024 which is also a cotton/linen blend. You can also use our lightweight 100% linen fabric IL020 which is also lightweight and tighter in weave.
I am making a 6ft tall sign draped over a bar for a wedding. Is this the weight of linen you would recommend for that type of thing?
We'd recommend our IL019 medium weight linen if it will be indoors, or our 4C22 heavyweight rustic linen if it is outdoors for needs to be thicker and sturdy.
which of your fabrics would be good for bathroom curtains? and shower liner? Thank you!
Our customers, depending on the look they were looking for, have used the IL019 and 4C22 or the shower curtains. For the liner they have used the same weight or the lighter IL020.
I have a collection of 2" linen squares that I would like to use in a cathedral windows quilt. Would this be an appropriate weight for that application?
When making quilts, we recommend using lightweight or medium weight linen. This fabric may be too light for this purpose.
Would this fabric be suitable for making a Korean style patchwork curtain? I want to use plant dyes (avocado, onion skins etc) to change the color. Would this work well?
Yes, this fabric would work very well for this style project. Happy sewing!
Hi..would this fabric work well for block printing scarves?
This is a lighter weight linen cotton that would work well for block printing if you are not needing a heavier 100% linen. We also have a 4.3 ounce linen/cotton IS012 that you might want to take a look at. We have samples for sale that will help find the right item for your project.
Would this work for a lightweight regency era shirt and the back of a vest? It would be for a Nutcracker performance and I am trying to keep performers cool. Its ok if its see through up close - (vest and natural leotard will keep them covered) - but I want it to look like a real shirt from the audience and in photos.
Hello, I'd say this fabric may be a little too open in its weave, but I'd get a sample to see if it will suit your performers. My recommendation would be our IS012 cotton/linen blend.
I am looking for some fabric to make a scarf. Drapes nicely, not too stiff. Would IS008 Bleached Linen/Cotton be better or would IL030 Gauze Bleached be better? Thank you!
It depends on the look you are wanting for your scarf. The IL030 is a lighter, airy linen that has been used for scarves. The IS008 is a lightweight linen cotton that is a tighter weave than the IL030 and would also make a beautiful scarf.
I'd like to know if I can use this as an all natural, but very cool & lightweight lining for a sleeveless sundress? I want it to be very light an airy. I wa thinking of pairing it with the lightweight gouache color. Will the dress still be too sheer?
Hello, This fabric would be a wonderful lining for the gouache fabric on the lightweight IL020 linen. This provides enough coverage for most of our customers for them to feel their garments are not see through.
I am looking for a less expensive lightweight fabric to line my ILO19 slacks. I don't like using poly lining fabrics with natural fabrics and muslin is too heavy. I used to be able to find a soft, thin cotton batiste weight. Which is a better choice IS008 or the IS012 for holding shape and reinforcing hip pull area and thigh rubbing.
We would actually recommend our IL020 lightweight linen as the best match for lining linen trousers. The IS008 is a muslin fabric with a texture and quite a lot of give, and the IS012 is a poplin which has a structured, paper like texture which is heavier than a batiste and has less drape.
This is more like gauze than any other linen I've bought here. I am happy with everything I've gotten here except this.
I thought this was handkerchief linen but it's more like gauze. Not what I was expecting, but you can't have it back. It's washed and in my stash until I decide what to use it for.
