The Natural color thread in this fabric is the earth made color of flax when it has been retted and woven into thread. No dyes, no bleach. The only thing that impacts the color of the cloth from one production to the next ( if it is more beige or grey) is the amount of sunshine and rain that particular flax harvest had.

Bleached linen color thread is made by "stripping" the natural color out of flax ( just like you would with bleaching hair). What you are left with is a very soft shade that is just ever so slightly an off-white color.

Mix Natural color is achieved with one bleached thread and one natural color thread interwoven together. As a result - you have a grey toned natural color that is a great compliment to all other colors.

At 4.3 ounces this 51% Linen/49 % Cotton blend brings together all of the things you love about linen, and the easy care of cotton, making this, a perfect pairing of two great fibers.

Is this fabric 51 percent linen and 49 percent cotton good to use as background fabric for quilt? Using cotton blocks in quilt. Should I wash linen/cotton fabric first? Thank you

We have had some customers use this for quilting and you would want to wash first to remove the shrinkage.

Do you have an idea when this will be back in stock? If not, do you have a very close alternate? Thanks

I'm sorry we do not have an ETA for this fabric. You might consider the 100% linen IL019 Mix Natural as a good alternative.

How does this fabric perform for machine embroidery? I am planning Christmas place mates with fairly heavy count embroidery (50,000) stitches.

Yes you can dye this linen/cotton - there is a picture posted of a customers dyed project to view as a reference point. We do recommend testing your dye method and process first to make sure there are no issues.

Is this a shear fabric. I want a dress, but don't want to line it.

Regarding IL019 Bleached with signature finish and ISoo3 Mix natural fabric. Do I need to prewash for a bed skirt. Also, will it shrink? I am making a gathered bedskirt for a queen bed, gathered full.

Sharon • April 18, 2023
Maureen profile image F|S Team

Yes you will want to pre-wash both to remove the shrinkage which is an estimated 7-10% using our recommended wash method which you can find posted in our help center here: support.fabrics-store.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000218543-Linen-Care-Pre-washing-and-Washing-your-Linen

Received my first order of #IS003. What are the laundering instructions for this fabric?? I thought I might find it with the item description, but I didn't see it there.

Please see our help center for recommended wash instructions. Cool to warm water wash, tumble dry low heat. Zig zag or serge the ends to make sure the linen does not fray.

Perfect living room curtains

I have a 10ft West facing window and wanted grommet topped curtains that would cut the light but not heavy enough to stop the airflow. The width of the fabric was perfect after washing to allow enough topper and hem lengths to only need two seamless curtains. Once everything was sewn, took them to the cleaners for pressing and hung them. They came out just as I had envisioned. Thanks

I love this blend of linen and cotton and the color is absolutely beautiful, near the pure natural linen, unstained, unbleached. I also think it is the perfect weight for sewing garments. I have sewn pretty dresses for beautiful little girls to be offered on my website at this adress: lelinquotidien.com

incredible curtains

I have been working on curtains for my family room and love them so much I think I will make more for bedrooms. The light looks so beautiful coming through this fabric! Light but not too light or sheer, not too heavy, it is perfect for so many uses but right now it is curtains I am loving!

Victoria profile image Perfect for capris

This is my go-to fabric for summer capris--the color goes with everything. This fabric is cotton-like in the way it behaves, i.e. it is not as springy as all-linen. It wrinkles la little less than the standard medium weight linen. I also make capris in il019 which is slightly heavier than this.

I love this blend of linen and cotton IS003 Mix Natural - 51% Linen / 49% Cotton - Light (4.3 oz/yd2). Here Rosalie (in the middle) is wearing a little dress of my creation. Juliette and Marilou is wearing a little dress that I have made from a vintage Burda 3563 which I have modified. You can purchase these beauties on my website at: lelinquotidien.com

Great minds think alike. As Megumi posted below, I also lined my banneton bread making bowls with remnants of this fabric left over after making the dress below. I've made a bread bag and applied this block-printed label that is made from some IL020 bleached linen. I really love the cotton-linen natural for tea towels, to cover my sourdough starter, and all things breakmaking!

Kelly • January 4, 2023

This is my first time working with the cotton-linen mix. I love it! It has all the breathability of linen and is very comfortable on. I know that no two flax harvests render the same "natural" hue, so I'm glad I got in on this one. It seems to me to have a frosty champagne hint to it. I was inspired to try my hand at tucks and lace insert by Dilakshi Waidyaratne. See her posts on the Thread Blog and on Instagram (Deemade___).

Kelly • August 8, 2022

I made a banneton liner with this for my sourdough bread baking.

Megumi • May 17, 2022

The fabric I chose was IS003 Mix Natural - a cotton-linen blend. One of the reasons I wanted to work with this fabric was the colour and the weight which was in between a light and mid- weight linen. When I initially got it I was worried it would be too stiff but a quick wash was all it needed to get that lovely drape. I also had some tricky details I needed to incorporate into sleeves and the skirt, which worked perfectly with the weight and drape of the fabric.
