This is a 19" wide twin to the 4C22 Rustic linen line.

Woven out of the same size thread and with the same thread density this IL084 is just woven to be narrow. That means less cutting time for you and you can get to the fun part of using your linen items sooner.

At a heavier weight of 7.1 ounces a square yard this 100% linen is referred to as Rustic due to its more textured look and feel. Durable and perfect for projects that require just a bit more substance.

Yarn Dyed fabrics are made using threads that are dyed separately before being woven. This allows for a larger variety of patterns and designs that stand out from the base fabric color. Design created exclusively for F|S.

Narrow width cloth is great for:

  • Shopping bags
  • Purses
  • Placemats
  • Runners
  • Decorative pillows
  • Kitchen towels
  • Appliance covers
  • Potholders
  • Cushions

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

Is this suitable for upholstery?

This fabric is only 19" wide, so may not be wide enough for most upholstery projects. Please see our French Ticking fabric which is great for upholstery and also comes in a stripe

Hello, I made a table runner and napkins from this fabric. The napkins came out smaller than I'd like so I want to order more fabric in a medium weight to make larger napkins. I want the color to match the darker shade of this fabric. What is the best choice? Thank you.

Hello, the color of the fabric is the natural flax color, so you can order your choice of weight in the 'natural' color. Another nice match is a blend of the bleached and natural together which is called mix natural.

Hello! I've never sewn with linen before, but am hoping to branch into it and make a blouse and a pair of shorts. Are there certain linens on your site you recommend most for apparel fabric? I was looking at medium to heavy ones but wasn't sure which would be best in summer months. I'm currently looking at " IL084 Narrow Width 978 Softened - 100% Linen Fabric - Heavy (7.1 oz/yd2), Width 19"" as an option for probably shorts. I'd love to hear your thoughts! I'm hoping to make a couple fabric purchases in the next few months. Thanks for your time!

Hello, Thanks for your question here. For a more in-depth answer please contact us via email at askfabrics-store.com. We recommend our IL019 and 1C64 for pants and blouses if you are new to linen. The 4C22 is a great option for pants and shorts. The IL084 is narrow width at around 19" wide, so not suitable for clothing, but it is and the twin of 4C22, which comes in the wider widths.

Perfect for my project

This has a nice weight with that classic, crisp linen feel. I was planning Christmas gifts and wanted the perfect linen. I was so excited when I found this! It's going to be a great Christmas. The fabric was easy to sew and my project turned out wonderful.

pleased many times with this linen!

I've used this linen for many gifts. Most have been hand towels. I love working with this linen. After Christmas gifts are finished, I need to make some for myself!

what?

I am highly disappointed. This is just run of the mill thin crap linen you can get at a local fabric store. Is this from china? I have all sorts of linen, antique french high end to the trade interior designer, French interior design linen. Easyern European, i have linen from Lithuania, and Portuguese. I washed this by hand to get it thicker at least it puffed up a tiny bit. I was hoping to make tea towels for my store. Absolutely no way.

Our linen is not from China and the origin can be found at our site, As indicated in many reviews this linen makes up into beautiful towels. I will send you an email with the tutorial to see if we can help salvage your project for you. Understood that you are unhappy but there is no need to make the disparaging remark that you have made and ask that you contact our customer service area to resolve any issues amicably.

Beautiful!

I love fresh, fine kitchen towels but didn't know exactly how this little project would go, so I only ordered the minimum and, boy, do I wish I had ordered more! I am watching for this to come back in stock so I can make more towels and maybe a runner. I did have a little trouble making straight cuts (I'm a beginner), so I ended up pulling a thread- I'll start like this next time. I did not hem the sides, and when washed up, it looks just fine. I gave one away as a hostess gift the day after I sewed these up. I'm watching for the fabric to come back in stock so I can make up more!

Fabulous!

I made a set of four tea towels and a table runner from this fabulous linen. AS these are meant to be casual items, I left the selvedge as is and hemmed the cut ends. Done this way, they work up very quickly. It gets softer and more absorbent with washing (NO fabric softeners!). It irons easily and turns out beautifully smooth.

I was looking for a bed shirt for our guest room but couldn't find anything that I liked until I was in my sewing room and saw a piece of the narrow linen I had made kitchen towels last year for my daughter-in-law.. I wasted no time ordering 9 more yards from the Fabric-Store and it was just enough to make the shirt for the queen size bed. I love how it came out!

Deborah • December 8, 2023

These made wonderful Christmas gifts. I made around 10 of these kitchen towels. I left the selvedge edge unhemmed. I machine embroidered them with machine embroidery designs of herbs. Everyone loved them. I love the ones that I have made for myself...super absorbent! I love them for drying the kitchen countertops and stove top after cleaning them...those last spots of water are absorbed away and leave the surfaces all shiny and bright! Love this linen and will be buying more as most who received a towel said they would like more!

Three oversized napkins, or smallish towels out of each yard of this lovely fabric. Simple and much appreciated gift. Used a simple mitered corner and a single initial monogram to personalize.

Looks awesome!! Love this fabrics

Elda • October 28, 2022

It was a dream to cut and sew I had no issue with working with this, I cut all the towels out at once then proceeded to sew ending up with four towels per 3-yards of fabrics with a bit left to create Lavendar Eye Mask.. These items were made for two shops one brick and mortar, and my online shop catherinemadeit1884.etsy.com.
