Bleached color is achieved by "stripping" the natural pigment out of the fibers( just like you would with bleaching hair). What you are left with is a very soft shade that is just ever so slightly an off-white color.
Bleached is the basics of any project and loves being dyed. It is actually what we use to dye the colors. A truly versatile base and a must-have addition to your fabric repertoire.

At a lighter weight of 3.5 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is woven with finer threads to give it a smoother appearance. Referred to as lightweight or handkerchief linen, this fine, but surprisingly sturdy linen brings new meaning to the term "sheer elegance".

Hello, I bought 10 yards of this linen back on 4/21, I am now getting around to using is. I Have a question and laundering this linen. Under the fabric care section it states that once a garment is made to not launder again but dry clean. It also states to was in cold. I need to dye 3 yards and the dye says to use very hot water. I'm not sure what to do now. It is going to be used as a lining for a wool robe. Thanks in advance. Patrick

Hello, Under our fabric care section on this page it states that this fabric is machine washable in cold water. You can also wash in warm water to remove shrinkage. Once your garment is made it is still able to be machine washable. Dyeing in hot water is OK, we just don't recommend washing repeatedly in hot water as this can degrade the fibers in the fabric, greatly reducing its life.

How many yards are on a bolt?

The bolts are sold as 20 yards but are not pre-cut. For example if you needed 40 yards you would order 2 bolts and receive 40 continuous yards not 20 and 20.

lovely and fine

This exactly what it purports to be: the sort of linen you would use for handkerchiefs, kerchiefs, shirts and similar items: fine thread, closely woven. I plan to use a lot of it as underlinings and linings for historic garments.

I love this linen!

My mother has a collection of Fiestaware in all different colors. I purchased 6 different colors of this linen and made napkins for her. 2 of each color. I had left over fabric from each color so I made a scarf of each color. The texture is so soft! Very luxurious feeling against your skin. I just ordered more to make more scarves for gifts and for a blouse.

A pleasure to work with

Call it post-Covid crazy, but I started making clothes this year. It was a pure pleasure to work with the mid weight bleached linen and the 18thC-inspired shirt (not as floofy as a historical garment) turned out, if I do say so myself, gorgeous.

**CORRECTION**Awesome!

**This is a correction for my original review** This stuff is top 5 fabrics, easily (imo)! In it's original form, it's super easy to work with. I made pjs for my son. Yes, it was a bit precarious. For a fabric that is akin to paper, it can seem like the article of clothing you're making may turn out stuff and rough. Well I'm here to tell you - that didn't happen. The first pair I made are amazing (they've been washed and softened the most). I'm seriously thinking about making sheets with this brilliant fabric! Yes, I was wrong. I judged a 'book by it's cover's and happily, I was wrong wrong wrong! I LOVE it when that happens with fabric. Another accidental discovery that I may have never found if I had encountered it in-store. Great again, FS. Great again!

I have used many weights of Fabric-Store linen and this one is my favorite. Since I had plenty of scraps in my stash of varying weights, I decided they would be good candidates for practicing the Shibori dye technique. I dyed each piece in a different pattern and was amazed at all the designs. I then pieced it all together and created a blanket with a dark blue, rustic linen also from Fabric-Store as a backing. This will make a very nice holiday gift!

Using IL20 linen dyed with avocado skins along with purchased floral fabric for the clothes. Bunnies made with a heavier weight linen.

Using Il20 bleached linen, a turtle design was first painted on the back of the jacket using fabric paints. After heat setting, an ice dye technique was used to create the mottled effect. I also make shawls from this same fabric, sometimes bleached, sometimes in colors, but I find that the hand dyed projects sell the best.
