At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.

Our FS Signature Finish was developed exclusively for us using a special process that makes this linen super soft with a comfy, classic look you'll love at first sight.

As a bonus, this process removes almost all of the initial shrinkage, giving you more fabric to get your projects done.
This finish makes the linen as soft as butter. Yep, 100% linen that feels and drapes and sews as no linen you have ever encountered. Because the fabric has been pre-shrunk for you - it will be less than the base cloth width.

What is the difference between the IL019 optic white signature finish and optic white classic in terms of heft, drape and color. Signature finish appears a brighter white. I need to make drapes for a deck slider so I'm wondering which wild hold best drape and filter a little light without being translucent. I appreciate your thoughts Thank you. Deb

The only difference between these fabrics is the softening treatment on them. The signature finish fabric has already had a softening process which reduces it stiffness and softness it up as it if were already washed and used several times, so it will have more drape and a softer hand than the unfinished fabric. Both, once pre-washed will both filter light in the same way.

I plan to use this linen in a quilt. Since the signature finish mostly pre shrunk the fabric, how much more shrinkage should I expect? Based on my research, it will need wider seams, shorter stich length, and a zig zag finish.

Susan • November 12, 2024

Hi! This fabric generally experiences only 3% shrinkage on a warm machine wash and low heat machine dry. I agree with using wider seams, shorter stitch lengths, but zig zagging is not necessary for any internal seams.

I'm new to sewing linen! After pre-washing the fabric, do recommend ironing it before cutting out your dress pieces?

Thanks for your answer! Any tips for ironing it? I've read that linen can easily get shiny from ironing, how do I avoid that?

Linen irons best with a hot iron and lots of steam. You can also mist your fabric with water for stubborn wrinkles. we like to iron our fabric when it is still a little damp after washing and drying. If your iron is prone to scorching, we recommend using a press cloth. will you every dye 1C64 in optic white again. I have used it for years making Altar Linens. 1L019 is OK but not as nice.

Beautiful crisp white linen

This is beautiful white abd we found drying with a couple dryer sheets helps pull out wrinkles. Always take it out of dryer damp to press. It irons well. Regarding the shine, use a Muslim or another piece of linen to avoid shine. If using starch only one I find that works great is Mary Ellen's. I'll post my white and gold outfit soon. Came out gorgeous.

I have worked with various weights of linen from various vendors from various countries. This linen is far superior especially for the price. As an added bonus the service received is always excellent and courteous.

IL019 Optic White Signature Finish

This is one of my very favorite fabrics to work with. It has a lovely, soft hand, it's perfectly easy to cut and sew. I'm planning to make a breezy, white linen shirt... perfect for summer. By the way, this fabric also makes dreamy, summer curtains. Love it!

The partner used is the Croatian Shirt by folkway and this linen is literally perfect for a shirt based on a folk garment. The weight and drape is really exquisite!

I chose FS OPTIC WHITE Midweight Linen to make the Mykonos Pants and something that hadn't occurred to me at the time was that white linen is not opaque. Maybe with a heavier weight it would be a different story, but when I look in the mirror all I see is my black underwear and the pocket linings. Something to bear in mind next time when choosing a fabric!

I've chosen to make The Assembly Line Tulip Dress because it has a fitted bodice that will be flattering on my curvy figure. It also has a zipper back, and until now, I've managed to avoid zippers! Inspired by a Dissh ready-to-wear dress similar to this pattern, I've made the dress with FS OPTIC WHITE linen. Something about white on older women is very appealing. I imagine it as embracing that crone-goddess energy. Women don't need to hide when they get older. We're at our most appealing selves when we have earned this much wisdom and power. White feels like owning that space and radiating the kind of settled satisfaction I feel in my own body and life right now.
