Bleached color is achieved by "stripping" the natural pigment out of the fibers( just like you would with bleaching hair). What you are left with is a very soft shade that is just ever so slightly an off-white color.
Bleached is the basics of any project and loves being dyed. It is actually what we use to dye the colors. A truly versatile base and a must-have addition to your fabric repertoire.

At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 59 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.

Our FS Signature Finish was developed exclusively for us using a special process that makes this linen super soft with a comfy, classic look you'll love at first sight.

As a bonus, this process removes almost all of the initial shrinkage, giving you more fabric to get your projects done.
This finish makes the linen as soft as butter. Yep, 100% linen that feels and drapes and sews as no linen you have ever encountered. Because the fabric has been pre-shrunk for you - it will be less than the base cloth width.

Is the bleached signature finish fabric prepared for dyeing?

Candace • May 6, 2023
Lauren profile image F|S Team

Hello, No, this fabric is not considered PFD, so you will need to pre-wash it with a 'pre-dye' detergent such as synthrapol to make it PFD.

I just purchased 3 yards of the IL019 All-Purpose unbleached fabric Signature Finish and noticed a chemical-type oder. What would be the best way to remove it? I am sensitive to fabric softeners and dryer sheets and always use a fragrance free laundry soap. Thank-you.

Gayle • February 27, 2024
Lauren profile image F|S Team

If possible, after washing your fabric in a free and clear style detergent thoroughly, hang the fabric out to dry. Otherwise, thorough washing and drying should do the trick.

Is this good for making bath towels and kitchen towels?? Is it absorbent as the other linens?

Tammie • September 19, 2022

We prefer our 4C22 heavyweight which is the twin to our kitchen towel fabric, but in the wider width. We recommend this fabric in our Milos Bath Towel free pattern.

This fabric will be used for a tablecloth. Is it okay to use a scotchguard type product on it? IL019 Bleached/signature finish. Also I love the look of the signature finish! Beautiful.

We love using our linen just the way it is, but if you want to use a fabric proctor product, we recommend doing test sqaure to check the product gives you the results you need.

I am curious about your answer to the person who made sheets that got holes after 2 years. I bought some high quality linen sheets and had the same problem with the fitted sheet after just a year or so. I am considering this linen to make another fitted sheet but now uncertain. What linen do you recommend if I am going for longevity rather than the initial feel of the fabric? Is a heavy weight linen better for a fitted sheet?

Jamie • July 15, 2023
SS

If you want improved longevity, use a flat sheet for the bottom instead of fitted. Fitted sheets wear out more rapidly because of the body abrasion on them. Flat sheets that are rotated get equal wear and, therefore, last longer.

I purchased this linen in March of 2021, sheets were completed in Fall of 2021. I made two flat sheets, so that they could be alternated between top and bottom Now less than 2 years later, both sheets have huge holes in them. Considering that linen is touted to have a long lifespan, I am extremely disappointed. We loved the sheets, but because of a lack of durability I cannot justify making another pair from this type of linen. Would a heavier weight linen that hasn't been softened hold up longer? What would be your suggestion? Thank you.

I've read that linen with 100 threads per inch provides excellent sun protection. Is your medium weight fabric this tightly woven? Thanks

Hello, We provide thread counts in the specification on this page. If you are on mobile or tablet, you may need to click on this menu to have the information drop down.

This fabric is not PFD, so you will need to scour it. Please search for the IL019 with no finish, that variant is PFD.

Do you have this fabric in 90 inches wide? Not sure how this fabric is used for bedsheets if the width is 90 inches on a queen size flat sheet but the fabric you sell is only 59 inches wide. Thank you

Neus • August 4, 2023
Lauren profile image F|S Team

hello, We do not have this fabric in wider widths. When making sheets you can sew panels together in such a way that they aren't felt when slept on. We have figured this all out for you in our free sheets sewing pattern. Please search 'sheets' on the site to bring up the free pattern.

can I really expect minimal shrinkage with this fabric? I still plan to pre-wash

Jean • August 29, 2022
Maureen profile image F|S Team

Yes you can expect less than 3% shrinkage as opposed to our other linens that have a 7-10% shrinkage rate. Yes we do recommend pre-washing this to remove the residual shrinkage.

If this is pre-shrunk, how wide is it in fact? How will I know how much to buy?

Mary • August 17, 2023
Lauren profile image F|S Team

hello, this fabric is 59" wide and can still shrink up to 3% on the first wash and dry.

Lauren • August 17, 2023
Kathryn profile image

Super basic - As long as I am not planning to dye it, is there any reason to prewash your 'signature finish' (prewashed) linen fabrics? I just received my first shipment (and first ever purchase of linen fabric), and don't want to waste the water (I live in AZ) if prewashing isn't necessary.

Kathryn • June 30, 2023
Lauren profile image F|S Team

Since this fabric may still have minimal shrinkage of up to 3% it is a good idea to prewash if you are making garments and other projects where you need the measurements to be precise. Otherwise it is a good idea to pre-wash any fabric or clothing item to remove any debris or lint residuals from manufacturing and handling.

Will this fabric work for a tablecloth? How much should I allow for shrinkage? And, any suggestions to remove stains?

Sharon • November 12, 2023
Lauren profile image F|S Team

Hello, yes this is a great fabric for a tablecloth. The shrinkage is up to 3% when following our washing directions. Nope

This does not feel like medium weight linen and is definitely sheer. The fabric came with a sticker marked from Guatemala. Nothing about Europe or being certified anything. I know it is described as softened...but having felt plenty of softened linen before...this fabric felt odd to me. Almost synthetic. All around very disappointing purchase after being excited to order from this site for so long.

Beautiful stenciled napkins

Love this fabric. I wasn't sure it would be heavy enough for stenciled napkins I wanted to make for a gift, but it is really terrific. For a formal napkin, I might have wanted something heavier. But these are for a more casual table, and I think the weight is perfect. I have leftover material and can't wait to sew a summer top with the remainder. The finish really reduces wrinkling enough that I won't need to iron a garment coming right out of the dryer. I never thought linen like that existed!

Please find a carrier other than UPS

Not going to say much, just a reminder that UPS will charge about half the cost of the order just to move it through customs, which they say is "optional". Please provide another option for us to ship items and clear them through customs, or just be up front about how much shipping will actually cost. In the mean time, anyone ordering from here, expect to pay half your order cost upon delivery.

IL019 bleached linen for my wedding dress! I also used the same fabric to make a mid-weight corset (no boning) in lieu of a bra, as well as wearing a half slip, because the white is a little see through.

Rachel • February 4, 2024

I've been buying the lL019 linen for a few years now and have never been disappointed. I usually make wraps/shawls and jackets on which I hand paint and then hand dye. One of most popular designs is the jacket which requires only two short seams. Quick sewing which leaves a lot of time for designing!

Deon • January 9, 2024

We have 11 ft ceilings in our living room, and custom linen curtains would have cost a fortune! One 20 yard bolt from fabrics-store.com was very affordable in comparison. I was a little intimidated at first, but this linen was SO easy to work with (at the time I sewed these I was 7 months pregnant) and the curtains came together quickly!! I even had enough leftover linen to make some shorter curtains for my master bath.
