IL019 All-purpose Bleached Fs Signature Finish - 100% Linen Fabric - Medium (5.3 oz/yd2) - 0.40 Yard, Width 58"
Bleached color is achieved by "stripping" the natural pigment out of the fibers (just like you would with bleaching hair). What you are left with is a very soft shade that is just ever so slightly an off-white color.
Bleached is the basics of any project and loves being dyed. It is actually what we use to dye the colors. A truly versatile base and a must-have addition to your fabric repertoire.
At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.
Our FS Signature Finish was developed exclusively for us using a special process that makes this linen super soft with a comfy, classic look you'll love at first sight.
As a bonus, this process removes almost all of the initial shrinkage, giving you more fabric to get your projects done.
This finish makes the linen as soft as butter. Yep, 100% linen that feels and drapes and sews as no linen you have ever encountered. Because the fabric has been pre-shrunk for you - it will be less than the base cloth width.

Customer Questions and Answers
Is there any stretch to this fabric? I'm make a fitted mini dress and and am looking for a linen fabric with virtually no stretch to it.
This fabric does not have any stretch
Is the bleached signature finish fabric prepared for dyeing?
Hello, No, this fabric is not considered PFD, so you will need to pre-wash it with a 'pre-dye' detergent such as synthrapol to make it PFD.
I just purchased 3 yards of the IL019 All-Purpose unbleached fabric Signature Finish and noticed a chemical-type oder. What would be the best way to remove it? I am sensitive to fabric softeners and dryer sheets and always use a fragrance free laundry soap. Thank-you.
If possible, after washing your fabric in a free and clear style detergent thoroughly, hang the fabric out to dry. Otherwise, thorough washing and drying should do the trick.
Is this good for making bath towels and kitchen towels?? Is it absorbent as the other linens?
We prefer our 4C22 heavyweight which is the twin to our kitchen towel fabric, but in the wider width. We recommend this fabric in our Milos Bath Towel free pattern.
Would this be good for an embroidery project? Thanks!
Yes, this fabric has been used for embroidery by many of our customers.
The fabric care instructions indicate it should be tumble dried. I've read that linen shrinks a lot, especially when put in the dryer. Is this fabric different? Are there any benefits to hanging the fabric to dry? Thanks!
This fabric has been wash and dried tested on a warm gentle wash and low heat dry and only has 3% shrinkage. Some people find it more convenient to machine dry, and find it leaves the fabric softer. Many customers also line dry and are happy with the results.
This fabric will be used for a tablecloth. Is it okay to use a scotchguard type product on it? IL019 Bleached/signature finish. Also I love the look of the signature finish! Beautiful.
We love using our linen just the way it is, but if you want to use a fabric proctor product, we recommend doing test sqaure to check the product gives you the results you need.
I am curious about your answer to the person who made sheets that got holes after 2 years. I bought some high quality linen sheets and had the same problem with the fitted sheet after just a year or so. I am considering this linen to make another fitted sheet but now uncertain. What linen do you recommend if I am going for longevity rather than the initial feel of the fabric? Is a heavy weight linen better for a fitted sheet?
If you want improved longevity, use a flat sheet for the bottom instead of fitted. Fitted sheets wear out more rapidly because of the body abrasion on them. Flat sheets that are rotated get equal wear and, therefore, last longer.
I purchased this linen in March of 2021, sheets were completed in Fall of 2021. I made two flat sheets, so that they could be alternated between top and bottom Now less than 2 years later, both sheets have huge holes in them. Considering that linen is touted to have a long lifespan, I am extremely disappointed. We loved the sheets, but because of a lack of durability I cannot justify making another pair from this type of linen. Would a heavier weight linen that hasn't been softened hold up longer? What would be your suggestion? Thank you.
An email has been sent to the email on account please make sure this came into your in-box, if not please check your SPAM.
Would this linen work for cross stitch
This fabric doesn't have an even weave count, but our 1C64 fabric has an even weave count and uniform threads to make cross stitching easy :)
Is this soft enough to make a shirt?
Yes very much so with some of our customers letting us know it is a dream to work with.
Hi - I posted this question on March 25, and now have found that it has been removed, and I have not received any response. We have not removed this question we have received it in our main customer service area as well so we have put it on hold in this area. We are working on our response to you and will email you from there shortly where we can post a more complete answer for you . This question was received over the weekend when our offices are closed so our response time can be delayed by one business day.
What is the Lea on your medium weight fabric?
Hello, we do not have the LEA available but all other specs are available in the specifications section on each fabric.
Is this fabric available in samples? I'd love to compare it to some of your other linens, but the "order swatch" button is missing.
Yes, simply add a note in the cart area when finalising your order with the details of the fabric you would like a sample of, and we can cut one and include it for you :)
I've read that linen with 100 threads per inch provides excellent sun protection. Is your medium weight fabric this tightly woven? Thanks
Hello, We provide thread counts in the specification on this page. If you are on mobile or tablet, you may need to click on this menu to have the information drop down.
What is the shrinkage on this fabric? How much longer do I need to cut it to account for loss when washed? Thank you so much!
Hello this fabric has an estimated shrinkage of 3% on the length and width.
Do you carry linen batting?
No, I'm sorry we do not.
What is the average shrinkage - cold water wash, line dry
Hello we do our shrinkage tests on warm water wash and low heat machine dry and we get max shrinkage of 3%. For more information about shrinkage please see our helpful article here: support.fabrics-store.com/hc/en-us/articles/4403190857485-Fabric-Shrinkage
Do you have a card with a sample of the colors
Yes, Our colors and basics are available for purchase as 2x3.5 color chips for $1.50 each - if you click on the color you are wanting it will take you to a larger description page where you will be able to click on the button that says order sample. You can also order any group by bundles here: fabrics-store.com/all-swatches

Wondering if this will take dye well? Wanting to ice dye linen to make a dress.
Several of our customers have used this linen with various dye methods with amazing results. We recommend testing the dye method with this linen before you start the project to make sure all is as it should be.
Is this fabric ready to dye? Thank you
This fabric is not PFD, so you will need to scour it. Please search for the IL019 with no finish, that variant is PFD.
Would this be suitable for a fitted sheet? I CANNOT find an affordable linen sheet for a Queen 16" thick mattress, so I guess I'll just have to make it.
Yes, this is our recommended fabric for sheets. If you haven't see it already, please search for our free sheets pattern. It includes cutting and sewing instructions.
Do you have this fabric in 90 inches wide? Not sure how this fabric is used for bedsheets if the width is 90 inches on a queen size flat sheet but the fabric you sell is only 59 inches wide. Thank you
hello, We do not have this fabric in wider widths. When making sheets you can sew panels together in such a way that they aren't felt when slept on. We have figured this all out for you in our free sheets sewing pattern. Please search 'sheets' on the site to bring up the free pattern.
can I really expect minimal shrinkage with this fabric? I still plan to pre-wash
Yes you can expect less than 3% shrinkage as opposed to our other linens that have a 7-10% shrinkage rate. Yes we do recommend pre-washing this to remove the residual shrinkage.
would this be suitable for drapes?
The best selling weight for drapery , this is a perfect choice.
hi, do you think this is stable enough to use for a cover for a mattress topper filled with wool? It would be slept on nightly, and i just don't want a fabric that will stretch with use or tear due to not tight enough weave. I usually use a cotton sheeting, but wanted to make one with this. your experienced view will be helpful. thank you.
Yes. IL019 medium weight of linen 5.3 oz. It will be strong enough to cover the mattress topper
Planning to make sheets, do I have the correct product?
Yes, you've found the right fabric! Happy sewing :)
Why does instagram ad say 38% off and full price on website
I do need the special link unless sale price is $16.76/yard Thanks
The Ad on Instagram will take you to a section of our website where you can take advantage of the special price which is reserved for orders strictly between 3 and 15 yards and cannot be combined with other sales on our site. Please let us know if you need the link again.
What is the difference between the options "fabric by the yard" and "1.00 yard pre-cut"? I have never ordered fabric before, thanks!
Fabric by the yard is cut continuously, and is priced and sold in one yard increments. The pre-cuts are remnants or small cuts which are only available in the listed length, and are sold at that length only.
If this is pre-shrunk, how wide is it in fact? How will I know how much to buy?
hello, this fabric is 59" wide and can still shrink up to 3% on the first wash and dry.
Does this particular linen come in wider widths for sheets?
We do not sock this fabric in wider widths, sorry. We've had success joining these widths together into panels for our sheets sets, and we have created a free download as a guide for joining the pieces for all standard mattress sizes. We use a flat felled seam which cannot be felt too. Here is a link to the guide: fabrics-store.com/sewing-patterns/classic-linen-bedding-flat-%26-fitted-sheets-type-pdf
Will Signature Finish fabric take dye well, or should I go with the regular finish? (I'm dyeing with plants if that matters.)
The SF does take dye well if it is thoroughly scoured prior to dyeing. Our fabric with no finishes is PFD.
Super basic - As long as I am not planning to dye it, is there any reason to prewash your 'signature finish' (prewashed) linen fabrics? I just received my first shipment (and first ever purchase of linen fabric), and don't want to waste the water (I live in AZ) if prewashing isn't necessary.
Since this fabric may still have minimal shrinkage of up to 3% it is a good idea to prewash if you are making garments and other projects where you need the measurements to be precise. Otherwise it is a good idea to pre-wash any fabric or clothing item to remove any debris or lint residuals from manufacturing and handling.
Will this fabric work for a tablecloth? How much should I allow for shrinkage? And, any suggestions to remove stains?
Hello, yes this is a great fabric for a tablecloth. The shrinkage is up to 3% when following our washing directions. We have our washing directions and stain removal tips available in our Help Center article here: support.fabrics-store.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000218543-Fabric-Care-Pre-washing-and-Washing-your-Cotton-and-Linen-Fabrics
I ordered 10 yards to make kaftans. The garment ripped at the seams on the first wear. The fabric is beautiful however medium weight is not enough for my needs. I suggest ordering a sample first!
Received an email stating black signature finish linen on sale through the online email only link I proceeded to put 4 yds into cart, hit purchase. Recieved instead white linen and was rather rudely told that was what I'd ordered, sent a copy of the screen shot from their link which is what I ordered from and they STILL refused to admit their mistake. I can send back the white linen ( which I have No use for at a considerable expense, MY expense) which THEY mistakenly sent. The email link I used which they sent to me ONLY SHOWED black linen, not white the screen shot showed only black linen not white. The emailed order receipt showed white which I unfortunately didn't notice until checking into what happened. Their link was for black and somehow in ordering it switched to white ,even though my screen shot shows black in both the pictures AND written description! I will have to find a company that will actually stand by their advertisements especially when presented with photographic evidence. Her comment that you can only purchase 3-15 yds in 3 yd increments should then match what their ordering page presented, which in this case allowed me to add 4 yds into the ordering amount. VERY frustrating to have 4yds of ( for me and my purpose) unusable white linen. Maybe I can find a charity that can use it bc I will not pay return shipping on a vendor error even if just on principle alone. Shame on you, I will be finding another company that's is honest and stands by their advertising.
Hello Dana, We're really sorry about this experience you've had with us and for this mix up. Please look out for an email from us shortly, we have issued you with a full refund on this mistake. Our sincerest apologies for this mix-up.
This place is great. The quality vs cost are altogether fair. I always get the bleached white in medium or heavy and customize with fiber reactive dye. All the same, linen is featured heavily in everything I make. Don't know what I would do if I lost this source.
A nice medium weight fabric but it's a pretty loose weave for sheets or apparel. Laundered beautifully and is a perfect off white color. I made a blouse but wonder how it will hold up to wear. So many great colors to choose from ... may try to make a dress from this fabric if the blouse survives a year!
in a haste with all the emails you all send I ordered wrong finish; unfortunately my seamtress cut from the bolt before I realized it was the wrong finish. I merely wanted to exchange for what I really needed. Make sure to check your order before you cut. This fabric is extremely soft-hence signature finish
