IL019 All-purpose Black Fs Signature Finish - 100% Linen Fabric - Medium (5.3 oz/yd2) - 0.40 Yard, Width 58"
Darkness pervades Tacita Dean's artworks, falling over craggy rocks and epic mountains into inky, bottomless wells. BLACK Linen shares Dean's endless black, a colour that intensifies mystery and drama, cloaking and concealing everything it touches.
At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.
Our FS Signature Finish was developed exclusively for us using a special process that makes this linen super soft with a comfy, classic look you'll love at first sight.
As a bonus, this process removes almost all of the initial shrinkage, giving you more fabric to get your projects done.
This finish makes the linen as soft as butter. Yep, 100% linen that feels and drapes and sews as no linen you have ever encountered. Because the fabric has been pre-shrunk for you - it will be less than the base cloth width.

What is the width?
This is at a 57/59 inch width
I purchased this fabric to make a dress. Does this fabric have "right" side?
No, This fabric does not have a right or wrong side.
Luv it! Lightweight but not sheer. Very soft. I have EDS-H and autoimmune system deficiencies that make my skin hyper-sensitive. Working with this fabric has not caused me to have skin issues. I haven't finished my garment yet, but I'm presuming I'll be able to enjoy wearing it. Plus, I got it at a VERY discounted cost, which really helped me, since I have limited resources. Thank you, FS!!!
I am glad I found this website, the linen is beautiful. I made a gorgeous black linen gathered waist skirt, and will make a peasant blouse in black too. The marketing is effective with emails coming in with exclusive offers which are very tempting and I have purchased both medium weight white and black. I regret that the shipping is $10 + which seems high, especially as I was not able to put 2 orders into one package - so $22 for shipping felt steep and will certainly effect my future purchases.
after falling in love with the feel of it, i bought a full 15 yards of the IL109 Bleached Signature Finish when it was offered at the 38% discount promo. so when the same in black became available at the discount, i did not hesitate to buy 15 yards of it as well. these will be staple fabrics for a linen capsule wardrobe and i can even dye the bleached in desired colors (although i'm a sucker for the doggie bag color offerings here as well!) thank you Fabrics Store for your amazing offerings!
But no black linen was delivered to my house on February 29th. First I knew about this was your request to review it. Which I can't. But I'm sure it was lovely, and someone is enjoying it somewhere.
What's not to like? The softness the drape, durable, it's a great foundation color!
This linen is perfect for pants. I have made several pairs (14 to be exact) and wear them all the time. I always get compliments on the range of colors offered. I highly recommend this fabric.
Very soft with a nice drape.
Love this weight of linen. Have sewn pants, jackets, purses, placemats and they all look great and are comfortable to wear. I line my purses with pretty cottons and my placemats are reversible with coordinated colors. This I'd my go to linen.
I made trousers and a top for my daughter's wedding with this beautiful black linen. I decided to make a matching kimono jacket but I needed to wait for it to go on sale. Hooray! It went on sale so I can finish the ensemble. I love the Signature Finish.
Quick & short review...Buy more! Next purchase will be an entire bolt of this fabric. It is stellar! Best price and customer service, can't be beat. 10 stars!
I have always loved anything that describes the beauty of the 4 seasons. This embroidery design came from Urban Threads, and I fell in love with it instantly. I had to make it for myself. I used the black linen and it came out beautifully. I mounted it on a wooden frame and hung it on my inspiration wall.
Love this linen! Have made so many items from it, mostly with the black, which goes with everything. This is the Nora Prom Dress from Pattern Studio on Etsy. I had to do a few alterations for the bodice to fit me and added the pockets. Love it for everyday wear and it's a great item to photo with my knitting and crochet patterns (SweaterBabe.com).
I put the Charlie pattern on my list because it is a versatile little multi-season capsule wardrobe encompassed in one pattern collection! I've always wanted to experiment with a "me made" capsule wardrobe; so what better opportunity to try it out than one of the Fabric-Store pattern collections?
I am a huge fan of linen. Most of my summer wardrobe is linen because it means everything goes together, it's cool, it's natural and I feel special when I wear it. I loved the quality of the fabric-store linen! Straight out of the box you could see that the drape and weight was perfect for a summer dress. It moves beautifully, and of course, sews up an absolute dream - no stretching, no drama. It's love.
I made a magical extra pocket! The belt is adjustable by wooden buttons so that it can be worn high on the waist or lower on the hips, depending on the outfit. Inside, it has tiny pockets for credit cards, cash, and pens. It fits my phone, keys, and wallet all at the same time! I lined it with black cotton, and added some fun embroidery and patchwork on top. I sell these pockets on my website at charliedarwintextiles.com !
For my fabric, I chose the Signature Black Linen in Medium Weight. Deciding on a colour was honestly the most difficult part of the process! The Akira set would look so great in absolutely any colour of the rainbow. I ended up choosing black because of the great childhood memories I have visiting cosmetic counters! I always wanted to dress in all black, like the inspiring makeup artists I looked up to. Later on, as a teenager, I began working in the hair and beauty industry myself, so wearing black became part of my regular attire.
