The Natural color thread in this fabric is the earth made color of flax when it has been retted and woven into thread. No dyes, no bleach. The only thing that impacts the color of the cloth from one production to the next ( if it is more beige or grey) is the amount of sunshine and rain that particular flax harvest had.

Bleached linen color thread is made by "stripping" the natural color out of flax ( just like you would with bleaching hair). What you are left with is a very soft shade that is just ever so slightly an off-white color.

Mix Natural color is achieved with one bleached thread and one natural color thread interwoven together. As a result - you have a grey toned natural color that is a great compliment to all other colors.

At a heavier weight of 7.1 ounces this 100% linen is referred to as Rustic due to its more textured look and feel. Durable and perfect for projects that require just a bit more substance.

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

What is the difference between your Natural and Mix Natural? Is Mix Natural mixed with something? Thanks.

The mixed natural has bleached and natural woven together which gives it a mixed look.

I want to recover my dining room chairs. Is this fabric durable enough? Is there a different one that may be better? My husband always wears jeans and he has worn out two different fabrics in the last ten years. Thank you!

Yes, this linen is often chosen for upholstery and slip cover projects. This one and the slightly heavier IL090 would be the 2 linens to look at for your project.

I want to create a wardrobe for the hot season and cool season using linen. Would this weight be warmer for the colder months?

Yes, this fabric is our go-to for the cooler months and in-between seasons and weather. It makes wonderful pants, jackets and structured dresses and skirts.

What color thread should I use? Lol I'm new to this. Would white be okay or try to get an off white/cream?

I am looking to purchase fabric to make a slipcover for my sofa that gets a lot of use and would like to be able to machine wash when needed. Would you recommend the 7.1 or 8 oz. version?

Jennifer • November 20, 2022

Either or would work with the 8oz having just a bit more substance if you feel that it is needed.

Lovely linen

I just love the weight and fiber blend of this heavy fabric. I am making tea towels from which to embroider designs as gifts. I love how it washes up and the weight seems to decrease the wrinkle potential

Mix Natural Softened Linen

This was by far the best linen I've ever worked with. The weight is perfect for my apron project and even though I ironed the fabric after washing and drying, they will look just as good with the textured look just out of the dryer with no ironing.

4C22 linen

I'm a painter and have been using this linen for several years. It's great to paint on. Four yards is just enough for three paintings. Ordering is simple and it arrives quickly.

LOVED THIS!

I am fairly new to linen and have decided I love this weight for aprons (which I make a lot of). I have recently ordered natural that wasn't softened, and have decided I like the softened better. This was a dream to sew with once I got it squared up. The mix in the natural adds some interest. I have already ordered more. Can't wait to embroider on it!

So easy to work with this linen and now I have a perfect jacket to dress things up a bit! I used the free Mariana pattern and am very happy with it, thank you!

Pat • August 26, 2023

Makes for a lovely dress/duster jacket that has the perfect amount of weight to it. I totally love how this one softens up over time. I sell this dress (using your custom body measurements) over at my website, charliedarwintextiles.com

I have fallen in love with the Mix Natural Softened linen which is perfect for my apron project. I'm using up leftover pieces of my hand woven fabrics as pockets. The weight and color is perfect! Thanks! Lois ZoZo FiberArts

Aprons are such a practical and beautiful way to protect your clothing, or in this case, enhance the branding of your store as well! Here are all the details you'll need if this inspires you to make your own classic linen aprons OR make a beautiful gift for a friend. We chose Mixed Natural Softened 7.1 oz for all the aprons. I pre washed and dried the linen and a section of the twill tape to make sure all the shrinking was out of the way. I then pressed or ironed the fabric and started to work.

I chose to use FS MIX NATURAL Heavyweight Softened Linen–I love the breathability and texture that the linen has and is structured enough to emphasize the details of the pants while soft/opaque enough to wear without any lining. As soon as I finish a project, my immediate reaction is to style it and I like that I can dress these up or down depending on my mood for the day, whether it's a graphic tee and vans or with a blazer.
