Fluffy, dimensional, and simply a joy to live with - you’ll feel like a sewing maestro when you pull this cloth out of its first dry cycle.

The fabric arrives 84 inches wide, flat and with a subtle basket-like weave. This weaving technique comes with a delightful surprise once it goes through its first wash and dry.

The threads that are woven to make the outside of the squares - they “lift up”.
The threads that are used to weave the inside of the squares - those “drop-down”.

You get a cloth that looks like squares of a freshly made waffle deliciousness. It is just that yummy!

This cloth is wider than our usual selection at 84" wide.  Once it is washed - the cloth will shrink to get that dimensional waffle surface.
Approximate shrinkage - the width of cloth shrinks 17% (weft of the fabric) and 28% on the length ( warp of the fabric). Shrinkage is based on a warm wash and low-heat dry.

Waffle weave cloth is great for:
- Bath towels
- Robes
- Throws
- Duvet covers
- Pillow shams
- Lounge garments
- Decorative pillows
- Curtains
- Beach towels
- Picnic blankets
- items that need to have dimension and softness

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

Is it possible to leave a raw hem on this fabric or will it run??

Theran • December 10, 2022
Lauren profile image F|S Team

Hello, Its a good idea to run a line or two of stitching along the edges you'd like a small fringe. The fabric will continue to fray and drop loose threads if you don't protect it in this way.

I want to make 4 hand towels and 4 wash clothes. How much fabric will I need?

Two questions: How thick does fabric appear after its washed, 1/8", 1/4", etc.? And does it easily snag on rings or jewelry? I have a waffle weave robe and my ring catches on it and pulls the threads. Thanks for your help.

Shauna • March 15, 2023
Maureen profile image F|S Team

Once washed it fluffs up nicely, not overly thick. We have not received any complaints that it pull or snags easily. I was able to run my rings back and forth over the laundered item with no issue.

When binding the towels, does it need to be cut on the bias since there are no curves.

Amy • June 7, 2024
Lauren profile image F|S Team

We recommend bias cutting the strips because the waffle weave fabric has some stretch when washed, so the bias will have a little give to match it.

Will this fabric dye well? You used to carry a cerulean blue that was gorgeous, but don't seem to offer it anymore. So I am looking for alternative ways to get the same color with this fabric.

Khrysta • October 3, 2022
Maureen profile image F|S Team

If you are going to dye the waffle linen/cotton you would want to use the bleached as the optic may interfere with the dye. If you can wait until early December ( maybe sooner) we will receive more of the Cerulean waffle at that time.

When making towels is this fabric meant to be cut and hemmed before or after washing and drying? Thank you.

I bought your beautiful fabric IS010 Bleached to make bath towel sets for a wedding shower, but cannot seem to locate directions I thought you sent me. At least I though you sent them or a link to some information with respect to sizes of each bath or hand towel and washcloth. I there any way you could help me with that? I would be very grateful! Thank you , Missey

Love Elaine's pattern❣️❣️❣️ I'll make it for a swimsuit jacket. This time of year it's always cool n the evenings when I swim. When I get out of the pool and the winds hit, it's dash into the house. I need more measurements.

I want to make drapes/curtains with this fabric. However, I like the tight and flat surface of the weave of the fabric prior to washing. Is it possible to use fabric and not pre wash. Or if is prewash, can I achieve that flat look via ironing. Please advise

Mary • August 29, 2022
Maureen profile image F|S Team

No, on this item, once you wash it the waffle plumps up and will not go back to that flat look that it has prior to washing even with ironing. You do not have to pre-wash as long as going forward you spot or dry clean the curtains to maintain the flat look.

Good afternoon - 3 yards to make 2 bath towels, 1 hand towel, and 2 wash cloths. The article with steps is here: blog.fabrics-store.com/2021/07/21/tutorial-how-to-make-waffle-bath-towels/ You can change/increase your towel sizes just be mindful that the fabric has different shrinkage for width and length. You will need to make sure to account for that when you are cutting out your desired towel sizes. Hope this helps. Have fun and email us if you have questions.

Waffle fabric

I am very happy with my waffle fabric purchase. I have used this fabric before and love it! This time I purchased a good sized piece in white and have already washed it. I plan to make a light weight blanket for warmer weather use and likely some hand and/or bath towels too. I would highly recommend this unique fabric!

My granddaughter requested a bathrobe for Christmas. I had a couple of lengths of cobalt blue from the Doggie Bag sale and a small piece of gray. I preshrunk as I thought my granddaughter would launder it in the future and was really pleased with texture and softness. Shrinkage was as described. I used a simple kimono style and added a pink gingham (Doggie Bag) flange trim. Her sister LOVES it, so I consider it a win :)Also made 2 bedspreads with Optic White. I added 2" hem at top but left the side selvages because I like the ruffle. These are the bedspreads I've been looking for to finish this bedroom! I used all the scraps for bar towels in the kitchen. As a seasoned seamstress,I found the fabric to be surprisingly easy to work with.I will buy more to make towels in the future.

Towels

Love, love this fabric for towels. This set is a gift. It dries quickly and doesn't hold orders. Just a caution: if you use a dryer, check the lint filter often. It's very linty for awhile.

Continues to shrink after first wash

I prewashed and dried this fabric aggressively, then sewed up a bath robe in very generous sizing. After washing and drying it on a very delicate setting that is usually safe even for rayon, it shrank another probably 15% , and while I can stretch it a little in one direction to recover some, not in the other. Directions should include multiple prewashes . It's also difficult to work with, but that's to be expected. Just very disappointed in money and time spent

Hello, We're sorry you experienced extra shrinkage after you pre-washed your fabric. We strongly advise that you prewash your fabric in the same manner you plan on washing your finished item. No aggressive techniques required. Make sure you use lots of water as this is key to pre-shrinking your fabric, not heat. So most high efficiency machines and front loaders may require additional pre-washes to fully pre-shrink your fabric.
