Natural is the earth made, not dyed, color of the flax plant once it is made into thread. No dyes, no bleach. The only thing that impacts the color of the cloth from one production to the next ( if it is more beige or grey) is the amount of sunshine and rain that particular flax harvest had.

A 57 inch wide heavier linen weighing 8.1 ounces it is referred to as canvas weight , this linen is perfectly suited for projects that require a sturdier yet still fashionable linen.

I am looking for a natural linen that could work as a canvas for painting, the linen at my local art store is through the roof expensive. Usually, linen canvas for painting is 7-10oz with a tight weave. Do you have a recommendation of which linen might be best? I am not great at understanding thread count etc. thanks!

Our customers have used both the 4C22 and IL019 Natural linens for their canvases. They prefer to use the non-softened versions of both. We have samples available for purchase to make sure which will work best for you.

I'm going to make Roman shades, do you recommend preshrinking in this case?

Rebecca • October 3, 2022
Maureen profile image F|S Team

If you are not going to launder them going forward then you would not need to launder the linen first, which is primarily down to remove shrinkage.

Is the 8 Oz appropriate for bed sheets? I'm concerned the lighter weight will wear through easily like store bought sheets. Or would the 6 Oz be a better choice?

This fabric is quite rustic and heavy, instead we'd recommend our 4C22 heavyweight Softened, which has a smoother hand, more drape and is a popular choice for fitted sheets with more durability.

I intend to stretch this on a canvas for painting. Question: would I need to pre-wash before mounting? Or does it come Pre-washed? Or would I stretch and mount, mist it with water so it can tighten on the frame?

Sabine • December 5, 2023
Lauren profile image F|S Team

Wether or not to pre-wash is up to your personal preference and needs. The fabric has not been washed and washing can help the fibers bloom and close up any gaps in the weave. This fabric has an estimated shrinkage of 10% on the length which should be taken into consideration.

Is this a good linen for dish towels?

Christopher • June 5, 2023
Lauren profile image F|S Team

This is a thick and rustic fabric ideal for dish towels. If you would prefer something a little thinner and purpose built, we have narrow width linen designed for dish towels. Search IL084.

I intend on using this for a king size duvet cover. I typically would wash in medium warm water and table dry. I want to continue to do this with linen. I want to know how many times do I need to wash/dry the fabric before constructing the duvet?

Lynn • July 31, 2023

Hello, generally, we will wash our fabric once or twice depending on your machine - High efficiency or front load machines typically use less water, so more pre-washing is needed for these types of machines. Hello, I'm wondering if this natural "canvas-y" heavy linen (today's flash sale) can be bleached white? I am willing to do it myself, but wonder if that's a commercially available option? Or if fabrics_store offers the service? (and cost for bleaching about 12-15 yards-- still calculating measurements) Any reply is helpful; even steering me toward a heavy linen that does come in white? Thanks for any help you can send my way.♡ TBiagi mome815aol.com

We do have this same weight in the bleached color so you would not have to bleach it yourself which is not something we recommend doing. Please look here fabrics-store.com/fabrics/linen-fabric-IL090-bleached-canvas

Love this linen

Love the color and weight of this linen. Such great customer service at this store. This was sent for me to try after I didn't like another heavy weight linen. Still not sure if I will make a slipcover for a chair out of this. Is very wrinkled after being washed and partially dried. Maybe softened would be better. Still thinking about it. LOVE this store.

Bath towel

I made two bath towels using 1 yd each. I don't know if the resulting towel would be enough for a big guy, but for me (5'3")? OMG... I absolutely love the roughness of the linen after showering.....which just plain feels so great on the skin. I totally hate those slippery soft poofs called 'bath towels' that not only don't help exfoliate winter dry skin, neither do they absorb! Linen is the only way to go.

There is a small shop feeling to this company. I love that. I think that is why I prefer not to go shopping for a different price or source. I feel I'm getting something more than the beautiful linen I choose to buy. The choice of products offered is totally satisfying and the sales as well the choice of artwork for marketing makes me feel at home. Someone here has a great eye and a love of color, so I'm safe. The latest of my linen purchases is a perfect example. It's beautiful and inspiring. I will practice block printing with it. I'm Happy!

I used DB IL090 natural heavy weight linen to make this project bag using the Firefly Tote pattern from Noodlehead patterns. I love the weight of the fabric which makes the bag have enough substance—with interfacing—to stand up on its own. The natural color is great for showcasing the quilting fabric that I've had for years in my stash. The drawstring top closure allows you to pull the yarn from the bag without the ball rolling away. Thank you, Fabrics-Store.Com for carrying such wonderful fabrics!
