This is a turquoise and natural stipe linen with a wider outside stripe to provide a perfect border for narrow items.

This is a 19" wide canvas weight cloth.

Woven out of thick, short staple, linen thread - this fabric is made to scrunch up after the wash and dry. It shrinks about 18% on the weft of the fabric ( widthwise) and 16% of the warp of the fabric ( lengthwise). This gives it the needed density for home textiles.

At a canvas weight of 9.1 ounces a square yard this 100% linen is a fabulous utilitarian fabric that you will love for its simple rustic beauty and strength. Items made from this fabric will wear like iron and last decades.

Yarn Dyed fabrics are made using threads that are dyed separately before being woven. This allows for a large variety of patterns and designs that stand out from the base fabric color.

Narrow width cloth is great for:

  • Shopping bags
  • Purses
  • Placemats
  • Runners
  • Decorative pillows
  • Kitchen towels
  • Appliance covers
  • Potholders
  • Cushions

MM profile image So delightful, with an unexpected surprise!

I made several kitchen towels from this fabric, and was making more from the IS010 Cerulean. Guess what? They almost match! I have a friend who is a local chef. Her kitchen has teal accents, so I am going to give her a set of the IL073 Teal stripe kitchen towels, the IS010 Cerulean towels and dish cloths, and some IS010 Bleached Natural towels and dishcloths. One can never have too many EXCELLENT kitchen towels! I suggest washing the IL073 in the same temperature water as one would use every day at least twice, then dry on medium heat until just damp. Iron before cutting. If you prefer putting a stay stitch in the ends before washing, be my guest. It is a good idea...but I am lazy. I cut to 25", then end hem ¼" twice, straight stitch, then zigzag. I also add a twill tape loop for hanging, but that's just me. Give this amazing fabric a chance!

Wonderful!

Nice stuff! I hemmed before sewing. For those interested in shrinkage, I started with pieces 36" long. Hemmed, my towels were 33.75" long. Machine washed hot, dried on high and ironed, towels measure 18" selvage to selvage and 30.5" long. Ironing was not as difficult as some reviews led me to believe, and the flax scent of the cloth is not "like a barnyard".

making dishtowels and linen pillow cases for Christmas

i really love the colors and textures of this heavy linen. It certainly has made some very pretty dish towels. i have a couple of pieces left over to make dish cloths or myself some smaller but very useful dish cloths. This will probably become a must do for us.

Virginia profile image Making dish towels

Love linen dish towels in heavy and light weights....Is it preferred to wash linen before sewing hems on dish towels?

Great Towels!

I like the kitchen towels I made of this fabric in another color way so much that I had to order some more! These towels will go in our camp kit, and out to friends as gifts. One word of warning: the colored stripes on this latest yardage are not quite centered. If a slightly off-center pattern on your towels might bother you (it would me!) check for symmetry before cutting and sewing! The way we deal with this fabric's tendency to become a wrinkled mess is to give them a gentle stretch when they come out of the washing machine, and then hang them to dry. It relax after several washings.

working out the shrinkage

I'm still working out the shrinking, but overall I think this is great fabric, especially for the money! Yes, once washed they are not that pretty, but really? a pretty? dish cloth? I made 2 towels so far, and the way these hem up is wonderful. My plan is to purchase much more, the weight is beautiful.

This high quality fabric makes great towels. My daughter and I have sets, I give them as part of housewarming gifts, wedding gifts, and any other suitable occasion.

Great color!

Well, love the fabric but I goofed! I washed it before I cut the placemats and runner... Now I have to iron it to get where I need to be for cutting and straightening... OOPS!

I'm sorry about the goof! I would highly recommend ironing while your linen is still a little damp to make the process smooth sailing from here on out. We hope you love your placemats and runner!

Greatest ever!

I serge the cut edges, press them over once then over again and it makes a nice clean hem (about 1/4 in) with out having to measure. I tuck the small serger tail under then I sew. I have decided to bring these to friends' houses instead of wine as a gift when we are invited after covid.

I made a little mat for my Kitty Cats food using this fabric. I trimmed about 1/8" from the selvage, and fringed it. I hemmed the top and bottom using a 1/2" hem folded twice. Lastly, I ran a decorative stitch along the fringed edges to prevent them from fraying in the wash. Easy to make and machine washable for when kitty spreads her food all over the place!

Here is the back view. You just throw it over your head, no ties needed!

I made this throw on Apron with this fabric and it is perfect for gardening! The fabric softens up so much after just one wash, but I wanted to make sure I got all the shrinkage out, and softened up the fabric before sewing, so I washed twice. I bought 5 yards of each and made 5 sets of dish towels. I prewashed the material and it softened up nicely. The material lost 2 inches in width and 6 inches in length. They are the perfect size for dishes.

The potholder and one envelope pillow cover are made with 20-inch canvas linen. After washing and ironing, the linen was just right in width for a 14-inch pillow insert. The length is 28 inches plus extra for the flap.

A potholder I make with this Linen

JENNI • May 7, 2021

I love these so much, I bought 6 more yards in different patterns so I have enough for Christmas gifts. It shrank more than I expected, but they are a great size and so absorbent!
