Janet profile image For Fringed Throws
Reviewer: Janet

Got 3 colors of this double faced fabric for fringed throws (instructions on this site) for gifts. Loved making them! Easey peasey! But, the selvedges on this color were sufficiently messy that I didn't want them showing. I decided to fringe the selvedges to get rid of the problem. I liked the look even better than the others, so I fringed all 3 of my throws! ----- I've done a reasonable amount of sewing in my long life but haven't spent any time fringing. Got on Utube and can offer some helps. Biggest one is to cut between the fabric and selvedge to the depth of the fringe you want to make. Then you can fringe easily and pick out the short threads from the selv. afterwards. I like to pull a thread where I want my fringe to end, so I have an easy to see mark. For long lengths of fabric to fringe, I go about 3' along the area I want to fringe, put the point of my scissors in the spot I pulled the thread and cut to the edge of the fabric making shorter lengths of thread that need to be pulled out.
