Our best selling Grey for many years, this slightly faded version brings a vintage vibe to a tried and true color.  ASPHALT linen mimics the tone of Vicken Parson's cool, mid-grey shadows, a color suggesting the concrete pavements, rain soaked bricks and hardened metal of the urban jungle.

At 5.1 ounces this Open Weave 57 inch wide linen has a unique slightly sheer look and feel that sets it apart from other medium weight linens. Open weave does not make it less durable or versatile, just loosely woven.

This linen should be laundered in a cold wash-tumble dried on air setting or very low heat--line dry if possible.

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

Nice and soft but VERY linty

This is definitely one of the softer of all the linens I've ever worked with. It has wonderful movement and drape. It was a little difficult to cut because it has a tendency to stretch on account of the loose weave, but with a bit of mindfulness that can be avoided. It does produce a lot of lint. When I pre-washed it, it came out of the washer with little gobs of lint on it. I then dried it on gentle and when the cycle was 1/2 way done the lint trap was overflowing and I was amazed that it hadn't started a fire. I had to check it 2 more times before the cycle was done. Other than that, this is a wonderful fabric to work with.

Marykate profile image Lovely Linen - LOTS of Lint

This is definitely on of the softer of all the linens I've bought from this store. It has the heft of a medium weight linen with the movement and drape of a lightweight. It was a little difficult to cut because it has a tendancy to stretch on account of the loose weave, but with a bit of mindfulness that can be avoided. The only reason I didn't give this linen 5 stars is because of the amount of lint it produced. When I pre-washed it, it came out of the washer COVERED in gobs of lint. I then dried it on gentle and had to clean the lint trap out 3 times while it dried. Each time the lint trap was FILLED. Other than that one thing though, this is a wonderful fabric to work with.

Another ordering mistake from the doggie bag but sewed my first linen throw for an anniversary gift! Needed something "silver"! Didn't realize it was an open weave linen fabric. Washed several times and dried on low once. Got creative and used a cute stitch on my sewing machine. Final size 54" x 74"! Love the nubby texture and the softness! Can't wait to see more as gifts!

I just love this linen to sew beautiful scarf! The drape is amazing! For sure, that kind of linen, open weave, which I adore, does a lot of lint when you wash it for the first time, but in the end, it does not have any importance at all. As you can see here on Kamylle, the color is more of a blueish-grey than a real neutral grey.

My son wanted a long sleeve linen shirt for the DC summer heat. Long sleeve 'cause he hates bugs. I used this open weave as an experiment. The finished product is like a comfy light weight tee shirt. This linen is soft. Kind of acts like a plaid (shifty). But if you are making a simple loose fitting outfit, you'll be ok. Shoulder Seams need to be reinforced for a boy's shirt . This fabric should be great for a light summer travel jacket. Hardly wrinkles and irons out fast Don't remember the exact color, but it's gray.

I used this fabric for the long over tunic for a Gandalf the Grey costume I made for a client. It was a little tricky to work with. But if you line up the grainlines and press it, it should be fine. It also leaves a lot of lint when you dry it, so check the dryer often!
