Jacquard cloths are created by weaving different color threads to create intricate patterns - or paintings that are woven with thread. These are harder to weave and are considered an "heirloom" fabric due to the craftsmanship involved in their creation.

This fabric is super fun to work with - making every project look like a work of art.  The trick? Just throw it in the wash!

When you receive it  - the cloth will be 65 inches wide, flat, and 2-dimensional. After the wash and dry - the design will "lift up" giving the fabric a 3 dimensional appearance.

In order for the fabric to "lift up" it is woven in a way that when it is washed and dried - it will shrink more than plain weave linen giving it the volume needed to be 3 dimensional. This cloth you can expect 18% shrinkage weft (width of the fabric); and 16% warp (length of the fabric). Shrinkage is based on a warm wash and low-heat dry.

Would this fabric (and it's weight) be suitable for a gathered end hammock?

C • November 14, 2023
Lauren profile image F|S Team

This fabric, when washed will become textured and have some give in it, which may not be suitable for a hammock. You might consider our IL090 canvas weight linen.

Hi! Can you use this fabric for roman shades?

Natalie • May 27, 2024
Lauren profile image F|S Team

This fabric is thick and will expand and texture up when washed or exposed to moisture, so it may not be suitable for roman shades.

How does this compare to the waffle weave cotton? I know EVERYBODY loves that stuff. For me, not so much. Even after multiple washes, it continues to lose fluff with every use. Sigh. I would like to use this jacquard for a bathrobe. Thoughts?

Jody • May 28, 2024
Lauren profile image F|S Team

Hello, in comparison to the waffle weave fabric I would say this jacquard has a lovely heft to it and the design becomes textured after washing. The fabric has less give in it than the waffle which can make it easier to sew when washed. I use this fabric for a hair towel daily and wash it with my other linen towels and don't experience a significant amount of lint or fluff in the wash or while using it.

If making towels with this heavy fabric what is the best way to finish the edges?

Jane • December 1, 2023
Lauren profile image F|S Team

Hello, We have some tutorials which have used this fabric for hair towels, bath wraps and finger towels. In these products we have used either a simple double folded hem, or you can fringe the edges.

I want to use this for a jacket. I have washed and dried this to shrink fabric before sewing. It shrunk as expected, but needed to be steamed to relax the fabric to show the pattern. Will it continue to shrink and will it soften up more. I don't want to have to dry clean.

Linda • September 15, 2023
Lauren profile image F|S Team

Hello, if you have thoroughly pre-washed your fabric, then it will not continue to shrink. Being 100% linen, this fabric will continue to soften over time with repeated washing and wearing. Hello! Is this fabric suitable to sew a ring sling? Thanks

Elif • March 23, 2024

This fabric is too thick and bulky. Our customers have used our IL019 medium weight linen for ring slings.

What kind of thread is used? Linen? Where can I get linen thread?

Aliza • September 30, 2023
Lauren profile image F|S Team

When sewing with linen fabric we like to use 100% polyester for its strength. You can also use 100% cotton threads. linen threads are only suitable for hand sewing. Would this work as a kig size duvet? I understand that I would have to seam it. How much fabric would I need? I want the other side a lighter weight fabric. Any suggestions?

Susan • December 30, 2023
Lauren profile image F|S Team

Hello, This fabric can be made into a duvet. To calculate your yardage, measure your desired length, then add shrinkage (16% on the length of the fabric) double this amount for the side panels ( or x4 if you will use this fabric for both sides of your duvet) This will yield you enough fabric for a center panel and two side panels. Be sure to wash your fabric prior to cutting and sewing so your fabric has shrunk to its accurate size.

bath towel size before hemming?

Evalyn • August 19, 2022
Lauren profile image F|S Team

We recommend cutting 34" wide piece (plus seam allowance) x the width of this fabric which is 65". This will yield a piece measuring 28" x 56" approximately

Absolutely love the geometric pattern, I've had a hard time finding jacquard with a modern style pattern like this. Is there any chance of this becoming available in any of the grey tones?

Bethany • April 9, 2023

Although there are no plans at this time to bring in the jacquards in colors , it might be something we will consider in the future, so please check back with us to see if we have any updated our information.

I would like to finish the seams of my jacket with mixed natural linen bias tape. I am confused by the fabric finishes that I should pick. Is there a resource that explains the difference between your fabric finishes, i.e. Signature finish, Premier finish?

how well would this work for 15th century clothing? in outerwear? is it heavier like a midgrade wool? ort lighter like a midweight blouse?

Renee • January 19, 2024

I would compare this closer to the mid-grade wool. It works wonderfully in outer wear and makes a fantastic statement.

I love this fabric for the towels I sew for myself & family! Recently, I've been asked to make them available for purchase. Now that I have several ready to sell, I've been asked what the GSM is on this fabric- but your website only shares the fabric weight. This makes it difficult for shoppers to make informed choices on purchases. Please share the GSM.

Maureen profile image F|S Team

All of our fabrics have a description page which lists the weight in ounces per square yard. There are several sites online that will assist with converting this from ounces per square yard to grams per square meter. In this case the grams per square meter equals 318.714

Shrinkage after hot water and hot dryer one time

The piece was originally 72" long (2 yards) by 65" wide. After washing in machine with hot water and drying in dryer it was 63" long by 47.5" wide (including the selvage). So my math would say this shrinks 12% in length and 27% in width selvage to selvage. I am considering washing again to see if it shrinks more as many of the reviewers had higher percentage shrinkage then I had based on my one wash.

beautiful and perfect color match

After seeing another buyer make a throw out of this fabric I knew that is what I wanted. The color is perfect for my decor. I purchased 4 yards and cut 2. Sewed a line on each cut edge, pulled the threads for a fringe. Getting a straight edge is a real job, but mine is good enough. Washed in cold water. Dried in dryer. Now on to 2nd one, did the same but washed in warm water, and the shrinkage is much more. Not that I have a problem, but I would not warm water wash. I have 4 more yards on order right now. The weight for a throw is perfect.

Monogrammed towel set for a wedding gift made from 3 yards of IL002 Tetra Ivory. I made the hand towels as a finished size of 28"x14" and added a button on the top corners and an elastic loop on the side edge in the middle so they can also be used as drying turbans. Since this is a very textured fabric, I used a knockdown stitch behind the monogram so it would be stable and look better. Lovely and luxurious!

Lizabeth • July 20, 2023

Upcycled Towels: This was one of the first fabrics I bought from this store. I wanted to make towels but thought it was too scratchy so I made a throw that has seen a lot of use and frequent washings over the past two years or so. Today I realized that the fabric is still in perfect condition but has become VERY soft - perfect for linen towels. The original cloth was 3 yards but it shrinks a lot because of the puckers. Each finished towel, with wide folded edges measures around 31 x 51 inches.

Joanna • June 7, 2022

The fabric, the texture, and the color make me feel like I'm wrapped in a flax linen hug and I could not have asked for a better textile to work with! I can't wait to wear this day in and day out, especially when I want to treat myself to a face mask and lavender latte on a lazy Sunday morning or an afternoon well-spent at a sauna collective by the bay.

Leila • May 12, 2022

Kimono style jacket. Finished garment is very heavy. I plan to wear it in the winter with a scarf. Very happy with this piece, especially the linen which makes it more interesting and unique. Thinking about what else I could make out of this fabric.

Home design. Very nice heavy drape to this fabric. It feels cozy.
