Jacquard cloths are created by weaving different color threads to create intricate patterns - or paintings that are woven with thread. These are harder to weave and are considered an "heirloom" fabric due to the craftsmanship involved in their creation.

This fabric is super fun to work with - making every project look like a work of art.  The trick? Just throw it in the wash!

When you receive it  - the cloth will be flat and 2-dimensional. After the wash and dry - the design will "lift up" giving the fabric a 3 dimensional appearance.

In order for the fabric to "lift up" it is woven in a way that when it is washed and dried - it will shrink more than plain weave linen giving it the volume needed to be 3 dimensional. This cloth you can expect 18% shrinkage weft (width of the fabric); and 16% warp (length of the fabric).

I am wondering exactly how Vickie joined this fabric together to make her coverlet for her king sized bed. I have thought of a few different ways but want to know what would be the best to do....thank you for any hints you can give me for working with this incredible fabric! It is very beautiful and interesting...and I have a bolt of it!

My plans are to make an All Well Cardigan Coat with this, When I pulled the fabric out of the package I admit to having doubts. It was course & scratchy but after the first wash/dry (high heat) I was in love! Washed & dried it 4 times. The shrinkage was at least 16 inches each direction for 3 yards but the puckered result is fabulous!! Everyone wants a throw or comforter made with this fabric. Looks like I will be ordering more. Wish there were other colors to choose from, but this color is a winner. If working with a pattern calling for 3 yards, allow at least 1/2 yd for shrinkage and remember this fabric shrinks in both directions.

Fabrics-store buyer profile image beautiful and not scratchy at all!
Reviewer: Anonymous

This is a wonderful fabric when washed up in hot water and dried! So crinkly and gorgeous...I love it! I purchased two yards to make a throw quilt and bound the edges with natural medium weight linen. I machine stitched on one side and then hand stitched. Someone complained about it being scratchy but I don't detect this at all. It is so comfortable when taking a nap and has such a beautiful look to it. This would make an incredible gift for someone who needs comforting or just to make them happy! So glad I found this linen fabric...it is gorgeous!

Immediately after reading Elizabeth's review and her mention of Japanese Boro....I was enthralled and ordered four yards for myself. I am very interested in Japanese textiles, particularly indigo fabrics and sashiko stitching, Boro included. They fascinate me and I have been sashiko stitching every single day since before Thanksgiving. Now when the weather cooperates outside, I will indigo dye my fabric and start to Boro stitch on it. I have completed a few other Boro textiles of my own and am very very anxious to get to this project. The fabric just came and it is in the washer already. I'm so excited by the prospect of this project! Can't wait to get the indigo dye out! Thanks Fabrics-Store, for offering such great fabric at affordable prices. I'm hoping I can catch a sale of this fabric someday in the future...I may make a king sized blanket for the bed!

Perfectly Painted profile image Amazing Texture!
Reviewer: Perfectly Painted

Love that one side is natural (w/ cream jacquard) while the other is creamy white (w/ natural pattern)! Definitely the right weight for towels, shams, or upholstery. Compared to the 4C22 I'd say this is a finer thread weave as it doesn't have the same nubby texture as a ‘raw' heavyweight linen after its been washed/dried but still maintains the weight (becoming quite heavy if doubled over). We love to sleep in 100% linen bedding because it keeps me warm while also keeping him cool, but I'm quite picky about the thread count/weave since I like to feel the pressure to avoid trapping cold air around my feet. Of all the linens I've purchased from here (which is A LOT the last few months) this is an absolutely perfect weight!! I've had my eye on this for awhile & finally pulled the plug during the sale, purchasing 9 yards. I quickly stitched the raw edges together & washed/dried to achieve the rumpled texture. I'm thrilled by the drape and beauty of it but am stuck trying to decide if I want to join 3 widths together to make a King blanket (like another reviewer mentioned making) or if I want to make something else & use another type from my linen stash to minimize seams. *I'm BLOWN AWAY but the customer service!! After posting the previous "review" request for shrinkage info (& making the purchase regardless) one of the team members emailed me asking what temperature I use for my wash & dry, offering to do a test & provide the shrinkage information requested! I find it so amazing that they're willing to take the time to cut, measure, w/d at the temperatures that match mine & then measure again just to give me some information! In all my years of buying linen (even in bulk from a manufacturer) I've never had a team that contacted me OFFERING to take time out of their day to help without my request. Simply amazing.

Fabrics-store buyer profile image Shrinkage?
Reviewer: Anonymous

I'd love if someone could post their experience with total shrinkage after multiple hot wash/dries? Another reviewer for the IL002 "scrolls" said her shrinkage for that one eas 35% Width (final of 40") & 15% Length after 5x wash/dry....I know the pattern affects this so hoping someone could tell me their numbers for this one? I've wanted to make a king bed cover with this linen for years but have been hesistent because of the cost & possible number of seams if it shrinks to a similar 40" width :-/

...which I made into a robe for my husband. He found it too heavy! I thought it would wash up like the thatch fabric, light with a bit of weight. I still love this linen but will be more careful about its end use i. Future.

Margie profile image Not as soft as I had hoped
Reviewer: Margie

I love the puckering that happens when this fabric is washed. It results in a gorgeous texture that I love in the throw that I made. But even after 5 machine washes and dries, it is still quite scratchy. I will keep throwing it in with every load of towels in hopes that it eventually gets soft. I experience the same shrinkage mentioned in other reviews. Not a big deal if you expect it.

I used this linen for a bed covering and pillowcases and love it so much1 The texture and weight of this is perfect for a bedspread and reminds me of old comfy quilts. Getting ready to purchase more, need more linen towels and love this linen for that purpose too!

Enid profile image Absolutely wonderful linen
Reviewer: Enid

I bought 2 yards of this linen, made some pillow covers and had some bit left over. I read a review for a different jacquard linen where someone made towels simply by hemming the fabric up on all sides. So I tried it, making two smallish towels. Since then (2 or 3 years ago) I have used no towels except my linen ones. The jacquard shrinks and gets very soft but still with a little bit of roughness to really make your skin feel great as you dry. The linen is heavy to begin with, and shrinkage makes it even thicker and more wonderful. The fibers are not dyed, so are exceptionally absorptive. My hair gets dried in record time with a linen towel. I am seriously considering buying more yardage to make big body-sized towels. This linen is just beautiful and wonderful!

I really splurged on this linen and bought two 8 yard pieces. I made a reversible renaissance cape from one piece which is posted with pictures under the other section. Wanted to comment that this linen is soft but heavy and looks and feels like luxury. I have been so pleased with it. I can't imagine a material I would like as much as this one for my cape.

Reviewer: Vickie

I am a linen addict thank to fabrics-store.com and have used many different weights for sewing multiple items of clothing and home décor. I created a king size cover with the tetra linen and it is a one of a kind, gorgeous, soft, bedspread. Love this linen. Also want to say to Judy, with the chair pictured on the right, WOW! that is fabulous and shows this wonderful linen at it's best

Erika profile image The fabric did the work for me
Reviewer: Erika

As a beginner, I've fallen in love with linen because it's so easy to work with. I bought 2 yards of this fabric to make an oversized throw. It shrunk to around 53" wide after 3 hot wash and dries. I debated adding a wide border but decided not to. The selvage wrinkles but I thought it looked pretty. In the end, I cut enough off the raw edges to make them square (using the pattern to guide my cuts) and double folded to hem. When my husband opened his gift, the first thing he said was, "it's so soft."

Elizabeth profile image Beautiful double layered fabric
Reviewer: Elizabeth

I hand wash all my linen multiple times in cool water and my own natural homemade laundry soap, then I air dry it. I do this to soften the linen and remove the residue from the weaving process. This linen appears to be modern until the double layers begin to show. The fabic has two light weight layers that are bound by the woven tetra design. The fabric takes on the appearance of a vintage Japanese textile. I plan to soften the fabric several more times before I dye it in indigo. I will be making a hand stitched boro textile with the four yards of cloth. I enjoy the natural beauty of all your linen and have learned to gently soften the fabric so it is wrinkle free.

Paula profile image Lovely fabric!!!! Great sewing experience!!!
Reviewer: Paula

I bought 3 yards of this lovely fabric, and made a throw for my husband. I took the advice of other reviewers, sewed the raw edges together in a tube with a straight stitch before washing and drying twice in hot water. Then I cut off the sewn edges, ironed and trued the fabric before cutting to 70" length, and cutting off finished edges. I turned up 1" all around and finished edges with simple double fold, 1/2" hem. I hand stitched squared corners. Some of the scraps were used to make a simple bow. I still have enough fabric to make a bath sheet. I plan to sew simple straight stitch approx. 1" all around for frayed edge. Thank you reviewers for all of the tips. It was very rewarding working with this fabric!!!!

Loretta profile image unique quilt
Reviewer: Loretta

My daughter is very picky and when I was making her wedding quilt there was a lot of consultation. Patchwork quilting just wasn't going to create the piece she wanted. I turned to the linen because of its weight (can be a bedcover on its own without backing) and neutral colour. The reverse side is being used for portions of the design so it is all tone on tone. Another added benefit is that the linen takes dye very nicely so portions will be dyed rather than patchworked. Coupled with a plain natural linen this gives me all the variety I need to completed a one-of-a-kind quilt. Will post photo when completed. The inspiration is the Art Gallery in Cleveland Ohio which is a regular stop.

Reversible Renaissance Cape. This is a heavy cape but worth it. Used a fabric store pattern for a lined cape. Made the hood double thickness. The light side has the back and side seams ragged as are all the other edges so they can fray. The opposite side is the darker side with the regular seams. Both sides of the cape have different closures so it is completely reversible. Will post 4 pictures all together but in separate posts.

Lots of work but worth it. 7 yards. Followed suggestions about fabric care, I.e. Cool wash, low dry. Then ironed with steam to restore grain and shape before cutting. This fabric made a lovely slip cover. Perfect weight and texture. Much nicer than the original chair.

Love this linen! I made a throw by simply binding the edges with the natural medium weight linen. After temporarily serging the raw ends together, I washed it in hot water to get the lovely texture to come out. It shrinks a LOT, but I expected that. It turned out wonderfully! In the photo you can see the difference that light makes in the color. In the background is the bedspread I made of this same linen. I may just make a jacket out of this as well!

The geometric "T" shaped stitching on this Jacquard is complimented nicely by the flowing texture of the washed linen. This is a great fabric for upholstery.

NOTES ON TETRA JACQUARD LINEN:
- The Tetra Jacquard is a dually layered linen.
- When washed, the fabric will take on a beautifully ruffled and textured look as shown in the picture above.
- If you do not want your Jacquard to acquire this "three dimensional" texture, then simply dry clean the fabric instead of regular machine wash.
