IC008 Muslin White Softened - 100% Cotton Fabric - Very Light (2.8 oz/yd2) - 2.00 Yards, Width 59"
This particular fabric is White and a great base to other designs.
Complimenting colors and motifs are interchangeable, which allows you to create entire collections: bedding and apparel alike.
Timeless designs that will remind you of cherished childhood memories and inspire you to create items for your family that they will pass on to the next generation.
Weighing a mere 2.8 ounces a square yard, this 59 inches wide MUSLIN fabric is as light and airy as a feather. Essentially, this cloth is two very fine cotton fabric layers that are joined together by interweaving. This process creates little pockets of space and air that are left in between the two layers making the overall cloth very light, soft, breathable, and voluminous without becoming heavy.
This MUSLIN cloth, which is both lightweight and durable, will be a welcome addition to your sewing room. A must-have for delicate items that need a bit more substance such as baby swaddles and slings, baby bedding, toddler garments, lounge apparel, and home textiles.
Our collection received rigorous Oeko-Tex certification and is a part of the BCI (Better Cotton Initiative) - ensuring that these items are biodegradable, recyclable, and free of harmful toxins or irritants (good for your family and good for the planet). F|S Exclusive designs.
The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

Customer Questions and Answers
How much will it shrink per yard and would it be a good choice for a very soft Victorian style ladies nightgown?
Based on our recommended wash instructions, which can be found in our help center, the shrinkage will be 3% in the warp and 5% in the weft.
Is this similar to cotton gauze? Lighter or heavier?
Hello, this fabric is two very fine cotton fabric layers that are joined together by interweaving. So this would be heavier than a cotton gauze due to the two combined layers.
How much does this fabric shrink please?
It will shrink 4 inches in the width and 4 inches in the length.
Hi! We will double-check again tomorrow and add the shrinkage to the description. Preliminary - about 4% on warp and 4% on weft based on a cool wash with low heat dry cycle. Have a great day!
Is this a pure blueish white or more ivory/off white?
It is a true bright white not ivory
Is this fabric prepared for dyeing?
If you are planning on dying this cotton you would need to test it first to make sure the dye stuffs you are wanting to use are not effected but the softener or dye used.
I'm looking for something to make a flowing gauzy slip for under a dress. Would this be a good fabric. Thank you, Trisha
This fabric is going to have some texture after washing, so you may prefer our percale fabric, or even our IL030 linen which are plain woven, gauzy and flowing!
Would you use it for adult bedding/pillowcases?
Yes especially if you are looking for a lighter cotton.
Does the double cloth weave create a texture?
Yes, this fabric will create a soft texture as the two layers on fabric ripple around the grid pattern in the weave.
Is this appropriate for drapery lining on IL090?
No this fabric would be too loosely woven and have a textured appearance. I'd recommend our IL020 lightweight linen. For a 100% cotton you may like the percale.
Is the Oeko-Tex certification for their Standard 100 criteria? Would it be for Product Class 1 for baby and toddler wear or Product Class 2 for adult wear? Thank you.
Is this a good choice for lining a linen dress?
We recommend using our IL020 or IL030 as lining for linen as these two fabrics are also linen, and will behave in the same manner as your main linen fabric. If you prefer to use cotton, this is a good alternative. Please ensure your fabrics have been thoroughly pre-shrunk before sewing.
Because the remnants I'd purchased felt so nice (It reminds me a little of bamboo fabric), I decided to get some yardage. This is a true white. As soon as I figure out a color more flattering to me, I'll dye it then split 2 yards lengthwise for a scarf & use the rest for a top. The woven grid lines make it very easy to cut straight (which makes the sloppy cut I received a bit obnoxious) and you definitely need to bind the cut edges before washing. But if you want a cozy light cotton, this is a lovely start for your creativity.
I liked this fabric and it worked well for my project — a 3-tier summer maxi skirt. That said, it's definitely muslin, so it may not be the best fabric for a lot of projects. Pros: Nice and soft, but sturdy; has a grid pattern woven into the fabric so it's easy to cut and sew straight lines; looser weave, so it's very easy to gather. Cons: Frays like mad, even using pinking shears for every cut; semi-sheer so plan on 2 layers if using for clothing, although I would not necessarily use 2 layers of this fabric on top of each other because the texture may cause bunching; I like tidy innards so I had to use French seams and double rolled hems. Would make a lovely summer bathrobe.
while this is a similar double layer fabric process, it is not quite cotton double layer gauze, but based on a FS store blog story about the differences and how a user found this to be a bit easier to sew than double layer gauze, i thought i'd go for it and get a few yards. it is really lovely!! double cotton gauze has a softer more billowy or puffy feel which is nice and comforting for certain garments. this muslin has a sleeker percale cotton feel but still with that bubble end effect that gauze has. i think i will prefer it more to gauze for some garments i wish to make. thank you Fabric Store for another great fabric offering!!!
This year for one of my projects I decided to bring a beet of cheer and whimsy to my kids' room by making bunk bed curtains. I used leftover marigolds from October gatherings and Dia de Los Muertos ofrendas to dye stripes on Fabrics Store's percale cotton fabric. They turned out wonky and adorable, just as I had hoped.
