Timeless designs that will remind you of cherished childhood memories and inspire you to create items for your family that they will pass on to the next generation.

This particular fabric is White and a great base to other designs.
Complimenting colors and motifs are interchangeable, which allows you to create entire collections: bedding and apparel alike.

Lightweight, plain weave, 100% cotton PERCALE. This 59 inch wide, 3.6 ounces per square yard fabric has a thread count that was specifically selected to create the ideal balance of durability, breathability, and price.

The cloth is tightly woven using a one over, one under weaving technique that gives you the perfect combination of a crisp hand and smooth surface.

PERCALE is light, crisp, and breathable, making it the perfect fabric for children's garments, apparel, home textiles and of course bedding for everyone including little ones and those of us who are hot sleepers.

Our collection received rigorous Oeko-Tex certification and is a part of the BCI (Better Cotton Initiative) - ensuring that these items are biodegradable, recyclable, and free of harmful toxins or irritants (good for your family and good for the planet). F|S Exclusive designs.

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

How does this fabric dye? I use fiber reactive dyes.

Beth • January 27, 2023
Maureen profile image F|S Team

Our solid cottons are dyed with reactive dyes as well. There should not be an issue over dying the solid colors but we so recommend testing first to make sure there are no adverse reactions.

It is down proof?

Irina • October 16, 2022
Maureen profile image F|S Team

Although this is a strong and sturdy cotton, down proof usually refers to a heavier fabric. The best way to proceed would be to order a swatch to see if it would suit your needs.

Is this fabric considered to be prepared for dyeing?

Candace • February 6, 2023

Hello! Excellent question. This cloth is not Prepared for Dyeing - it has a "Softened" finish. You can test a piece to see how it will take to the dyeing technique that you would like to use. We do have an article with a finished hand-dyed dress to help with ideas and inspiration here: blog.fabrics-store.com/2022/12/27/hand-dyed-cloud-dress/ Hope to see pictures :) Have a great day!

Not as soft as I’d like

I made two comforters out of this fabric, filled with pure wool. Nice fabric but not quite as soft as I've seen for percale. I'm now looking for something softer for the outer covers.

DAVID • June 25, 2023

I planned to make the Birgitta Helmersson "Zero-Waste" Gather Dress. I also wanted some leftovers for future patching and piecework projects. Using over three yards of fabric, I first soaked the damp cloth in an unscientific blend of Trader Joe's plain soymilk and water for about 24 hours. I hung the material to dry while concocting my avocado dye.

This is so lovely but how is this avocado dye? It looks more like indigo to my inexperienced eye. Beautiful nonetheless.

Hi Angelica! I first dyed the white fabric with avocados to get that underlying soft pink color. Then I layered a charcoal colored Rit dye over the top

(There is a whole blog post on Fabric-Store’s blog The Thread about this process)
