We recommend selecting you size based on your body measurements, not your usual store bought clothing size. For more information please see our helpful article on the topic:

What height is this dress designed for? If I'm 158 cm tall, I should probably shorten the pattern in the armholes, waist and lower part by about 1-2 cm, am I right? What would you recommend?

mal • March 18, 2024
Lauren profile image F|S Team

This pattern was designed for a 5'6" height. We recommend sewing a toile to check the fit before making adjustments.

Hi. I downloaded the trapeze dress pattern and want to purchase pink linen for it but I do not see the yardage or anyvsize info in my download. Also, it seems the fabric can only be bought in hole yards. If a pattern calls for 2.5 yards, do we have to order 3?

Suzanne • December 2, 2023

Hello, The Mona pattern is one of our earliest free patterns which requires you to select your size based on your desired finished bust measurement. For linen to match this project we love our IL019 medium weight linen, which is only sold by the yard. You might be able to try your luck in our remnants section, the 'doggy bag' to see if there are smaller cuts available.

Can these patterns be printed in one A0 or A1 size sheet rather than 20 A4 pages ?

Annette • November 21, 2023

I'm sorry, our free patterns are only available in A4/Letter format.

I've made a lot of dresses from this pattern but my friend wants one with a cold shoulder sleeve. Any recommendations for me? Thank you for your help and advice.

I am having trouble printing this the correct size. I have changed paper size, printed at 100% but it still doesn't turn out to be the right size. My test square always measures bigger than 2". Any other suggestions?

Hello, One issue we encounter is that the paper registered in your tray doesn't match what you printer is reading in the settings. Check this and make sure these match up. Otherwise, we always recommend "centered" and 100% or "actual size" as the settings needed to print the patterns. if these are still not working for you, please contact your printer manufacturer.

Sizing trends small

You can expect to size up for this pattern. Neckline is high and can feel a bit uncomfortable as drawn.

It says no instructions included, but I see one reviewer mentioned 'easy to follow instructions'. I don't see any in the printable I've downloaded. Can anyone offer information on this please? Thank you!

Fabric Requirements

I can't seem to find the yardage requirements for this dress.

Lisa • September 25, 2021
FS Team profile image F|S Team

Hello, This is one of our older free patterns which didn't list yardage. We are in the process of updating these patterns to include this information. In the meantime, you can assemble your pattern pieces and lay them out on a flat surface according to the width of your fabric. Next, measure the length that the patterns take up to find your yardage requirement. We used 2.5 yards for the smallest size.

I have downloaded the pattern and would like to sew this dress but I wonder if the sizes are correct? The seem very small to me. Normally I use a size 14 but in this case I would have to use a size 20/22 according to the finished garment bust measurement?

Tusse • July 13, 2021
FS Team profile image F|S Team

Hello, sizing across pattern companies and all clothing brands differ since there isn't a standardized size system. We recommend choosing your size based on the body and finished garment measurements. Our patterns are also drafted for a B-cup up to a size 16, so you may like to do a full bust adjustment if your cup size differs. Please email us if you'd like assistance doing this or for choosing a size :)

Easy and Beautiful

I consider myself still a beginner. I've made a few things but sometimes feel I have more misses than hits. This pattern is definitely a hit! I made 2 dresses in 2 days. The first I made w/ a cotton linen blend which turned out well but the fabric was a bit stiff and the neck line felt a bit too high for me. The second I made in mid weight 100% linen in a gorgeous storm cloud blue gray and lowered the neck line by 1 inch. Perfection! The instructions are complete and easy to follow and I even learned a new technique with the bias binding on the neck and arm holes.

I am a 36 DD and therefore cut the pattern accordingly. However, I then had to drastically take in the lower portion of the dress(I'm a size 4). Keep in mind when cutting. Love, love, love the material. IL019 All-purpose Provence Fs Signature Finish - 100% Linen - Medium (5.3 oz/yd2)

Christine • April 7, 2024

This pattern is great for ladies of smaller bust sizes - I had to do significant adjustments to the bust area because I do not. Otherwise it's a great summer dress that is easy to sew

Isabel • March 2, 2023

I decided to add a button placket to the front of the dress, and a facing around the neckline instead of the bias tape, which was more suitable to my fabric. Thank you for the lovely pattern!

Maria • May 21, 2022

Mede un cotton and sleeves added.

Jack • June 6, 2021

I can see myself making so many more of this dress in all of the linen colors. This one is in the heavyweight 4C22 GINGER color. I love the way the pockets are sewn into the front of the dress, a really nice touch!
