Hello! What is the finished length of the jacket, please?

Hello, The finished length of the jacket varies between sizes. To figure this out please download the free pattern and assemble your size to measure. You can adjust the length to your desired position as well.

Hi, can you please advise what height your patterns are designed for? (I'm 5'2" and it helps me to figure out how much to shorten by across the board) - thank you for the patterns!

Jasmin • March 1, 2024

This pattern was design for a height of 5'7"

I am 5'9.5", and wondering at what point should I lengthen this pattern. My back waist length is 19". I would greatly appreciate your advice. Thank you. Susan

Hello Susan, generally, you will need to add a lengthen and shorten line to correspond with the area of the pattern that needs lengthening. Either place it above or below the waistline to a) move the waistline down to match your own waist point, or b) below the waistline to lengthen the jacket below the waistline so it sits at the right point of your hips.

Which linen is used to make the light lavender linen jacket illustrating this pattern. Would love to know the weight and type.

Can you use velvet to make this jacket?

Patricia • November 15, 2023

Our patterns have been designed and tested using our linen fabrics. If you would like to use another fabric, ensure it is woven, and you will need to adjust your seam finishes, seam allowance and pattern layout to suit your fabric.

Buongiorno, vorrei realizzare questo modello con la lana cotta leggera. Pensate sia possibile? Grazie

Hello All of our patterns are made for our 100% linen fabric, so we encourage you to make a toille in a similar fabric to your wool for best results.

Could this be done in the waffle linen? If so would you wash it first and then cut?

Pam • September 23, 2023
Lauren profile image F|S Team

This pattern would not be suitable for the waffle linen as it is not structured enough for the notched collar.

Love this jacket but would like to line it. Is there a tutorial for that? Thank you so much for these wonderful patterns :)

We have a tutorial for this on our blog. Go to blog.fabrics-store.com and search for "Mariana" and the post will come up. Here is the current link we have: blog.fabrics-store.com/2023/03/23/tutorial-how-to-make-lining-for-the-mariana-jacket-free-pattern/

I was able to look at the photos but didn't see anything knee length or so. How could I lengthen to that length as I prefer tunic lengths for everything :) Also I rarely love orange but the orange jacket made by sarah(?) is gorgeous! THAT is an orange I would love. Thanks for sharing.

Hello, Yes you can lengthen this garment. If you have a similar lengthen jacket at home you could use it to guide the length for this jacket. Check out our blog for a post about copying ready made clothing into your own pattern. The orange color is stocked by us, and is called Mecca Orange on our IL019 medium weight linen.

Is this jacket really short? I know I can lengthen it, but the pattern seems very short to me. Thanks.

This jacket stops around the hip bones, but may vary depending on your body shape and height. You may like to view the finished garment measurements and the customer photos shared below.

Great result for the effort

This pattern is a looser fit which makes the sizing more forgiving. Well worth the cost of 2 yards of linen.

great casual jacket pattern

Love the final product. It was a challenge for me, owing to my limited sewing experience. While the separate pocket instruction was helpful, I had more trouble with the collar/lapel instructions. I was able to get it done however, and this will be a favorite of mine forever. I chose to make it in the natural color, and it seems like it may be a little coarser than the jacket shown. Hard to tell but the photo on the website seems to have a softer drape. I am going to use some softener, but it really makes no difference to me. Thank you for a great pattern and affordable linen!

This pattern is amazing. I didn't have to make any alterations and it fit just perfect. I added two welt pocket in the front and followed the Fabric-Store Blog to line the jacket. The appliques were downloaded from a free vintage image site and printed on a yard of fabric from Spoonflower. The only thing I would change is the main fabric. Instead I wish I had used the Natural Linen from Fabric-Store. But otherwise really happy with the way it turned out. Thank you for the great pattern!

Posting on Behalf of Glenda: Just finished this jacket from the free pattern. Made in heavy weight linen and I lined it following the tutorial instructions.

Lauren • November 1, 2023

Photo came out oddly wide. Have yet to hem, but love the (near) finished product! Body of coat using Fabrics- Store medium weight, softened finish, 100% linen in asphalt color. Lining is Spoonflower cotton lawn in Hmong inspired print.

I enjoyed making the Marianna Notched Collar Jacket. The tutorial was very helpful, maybe a little confusing with the collar, but I didn't have much difficulty there. My welt pockets could look better. Kind of tricky for me, even though I practiced. I really like the deep pocket bags.
