IL019 COBALT Softened - 100% Linen - Middle (5.3 oz/yd2)
Dark, brooding and dramatic, the intense blue of COBALT linen was ideal for Renaissance painter Jacopo Vignali's heightened, operatic scenes.
A leading painter in the Florentine Seicento, Vignali's Baroque paintings were defined by flowing swathes of jewel-toned fabric in midnight blues and crimson reds; set amidst theatrical, directional light, these richly toned colors amplify the romantic agony and tragedy of his stories. At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces, this 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.

Beautiful deep colour, a single hot water wash and line dried resulted in minimum shrinkage- maybe 1%. I combined this and IL020 in the same colour to achieve the level of fullness and drape for "If Kim Wore Clothes' Julia Puff Sleeve Maxi Dress. I used the IL019 for the bodice and the bottom of the full skirt, from the pintucks down (just joined with a vertical seam) and the armbands, then the IL020 for the puff sleeves and the top portion of the skirt, which is where the actual gathering is. It worked perfectly!!
The cobalt blue is a beautiful blue, the quality of this linen excellent. I sewed a top with it last year. Can't wait to sew a skirt to go with it.
Super pretty can't wait to see with it! So soft after washing!
I bought this fabric by the bolt to use for custom order kimonos and dresses in my Etsy shop. The quality and color are gorgeous. If prewashing, the fabrics frays a lot on the first wash and puts off a lot of lint (both in the washer and dryer), but it settles down in subsequent washes.
Love the color. Pre-washed and feeling soft so I'm ready to cut it up. My grandson loved his vest in the Olive green shade so i know this will be just as good!
Lovely linen for reenactment. This color is almost identical to 4C22 Indigo (and very close to ILO19 insignia blue which is a marginally darker shade) with thinner fibres and lighter weave. I'll be using it for a renaissance garb. Lost a start simply cause i was hoping for a darker navy like dress blue.
Color is rich, fabric is top quality. I prewash it and very little shrinkage.
Slightly premature as I've only just started working with the fabric... I ordered four yards of the cobalt to make a day Regency dress. I was a little worried when I received the package - not because of the color, because it's perfect, but because of the finish. I was worried it wouldn't drape properly. Serged the raw edges and prewashed (beaucoup lint!), and voila! It is really soft and drapes beautifully. Just stitching the edges, I could see that it cooperated nicely with my sewing machine. Will post a photo and edit this when I'm done with the dress. My husband is pretty fussy about what he wears. I've been wanting to make some RenFaire garb for him for a few years, but worried that all he'd want to wear was cotton. Took the just washed and dried fabric up to him, asked him what he thought of the feel and he liked it. So I will eventually be ordering more (in a proper color), so that he can have something period correct and comfy to wear. I already ordered fabric for a new skirt with this order, so mama's in business :)
I bought this to make dish towels. It will be perfect. I prewashed and dried it to be sure of any shrinkage before sewing. It will run color if washed in hot water so be sure to wash in like colors only. This is such a pretty fabric!
I use the color Cobalt in the place of Navy Blue. It's totally a true color of navy. Does not lean purple and not too light. Jus that perfect dark color of summer navy blue. Or light midnight blue. Every time I order it shows up the perfect color.
I purchased this to craft dish towels using a bleach pen to create a botanical design. I am a stainy dishtowel gal so wanted the darker color to conceal inevitable stains. Pre-laundered and needle ready. BUT my daughter's wedding is next week so we decided to make floor pillows for the little kids to sit on during the ceremony. This made up into lovely cushions.
I used the IL019 Cobalt Linen to make some 'Jules Shorts' using Fabrics-Store's free Shorts pattern. It was easy to widen and lengthen the leg from the pattern, and the fabric was easy to sew. They're so comfortable I can't wait to make more! Link to the pattern: fabrics-store.com/sewing-patterns/jules-pleated-shorts-pattern

This is a pair of wide-legged slacks I did for a customer. I LOVE WORKING WITH LINEN, and do so exclusively. Linen is so easy to work with and I love the comfort and feel of linen next to skin. But what makes it all worthwhile it is the healing frequency of linen. It's what my customers want exclusively also.
I decided to make a heraldic Cote Hardie. This is based on my Arms. I love how it turned out and I love how the linen worked so very well. The IL019 is a great weight for garments. Wish I had room for a second pic as the Rayonnys down the sleeve are awesome! I was surprised by how well the linen held up to being appliqued.
This blue costume is the Lord Mayor at the Central Coast Renaissance Faire, that just took place this past weekend (July 16 and 17, 2011). His doublet and tie-in sleeves, pants and tall-hat are all made from your mid-weight linen. The doublet and sleeves are slashed with green dupioni silk and embroidered with a gray-blue.
