KENYA linen's
rich shade of red ochre seems intrinsically bound to nature, invoking
rich, fertile soil and the careworn bark of ancient trees.
Kenyan
contemporary painter Michael Armitage has embraced this earthy color to
convey his homeland of Kenya, illustrating its wild and untameable
beauty with an evocative array of ochre and sienna tinged hues. Amidst
his fantastical, wild scenes people from modern life are intermingled
with the ghosts of the past, crossing back and forth over one another to
form a prismatic and complex vision of Kenyan identity today.
At a heavier weight of 7.1 ounces this 100% linen is referred to as Rustic due to its more textured look and feel. Durable and perfect for projects that require just a bit more substance.
The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

I ordered a little of this to see what it's like and I was very pleased. Wonderful rich color, sturdy weight and surprisingly smooth texture. Then what to do with it? Well, I was getting interested in the SCA, so I needed a "scrip," or serviceable bag to carry my "stuff." This was perfect fabric for it, sturdy, and a rather smooth texture that was perfect for embroidery! Well, it's done and I get lots of compliments! Pictures to follow.

This is such a gorgeous color - never disappoints.
I used this linen to make a bodice for a costume as well as a cape, it was my first time working with linen and I will definitely be purchasing more!
The fabric is wonderful to work with! I loooove the color and texture. It is just the right weight to use in my purse designs. It makes up beautifully and is very durable! Cannot say enough!
Japanese style apron. The fabric was wonderful to work with, garment hangs nicely. The color is a little more orange than my computer portrayed, but it's still nice.
Nature is full of textures and colors! Linen and a beautiful color called Kenya inspired this purse. The texture added to the front of the purse was inspired by all the wonderful varieties of texture found in Nature. To enhance the taste of Nature,I used my handmade buttons which I created from limbs of fallen wood from the forest surrounding my home.

FABRIC CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Please note that some of our darker or more vibrant shades will have some residual dye run off or bleeding. It is important that you launder or treat like colors with like colors so that you do not compromise the integrity of any other colors, fabrics or garments during the launder process.
We also suggest that if you are combining one or more of these types of colors with lighter colors that you pre-wash the linens seperately and once the item is completed do not launder again, but Dry Clean.
