At 5.1 ounces this Open Weave 57 inch wide linen has a unique slightly sheer look and feel that sets it apart from other medium weight linens. Open weave does not make it less durable or versatile, just loosely woven.

This linen should be laundered in a cold wash-tumble dried on air setting or very low heat--line dry if possible.

The Premier Finish undergoes a two-step process to give the cloth a luxurious, supple feel right out of the box.

First, we apply a softener to give the fabric a silkier surface. Then, strong blasts of air are blown into the woven cloth. This beats up the fibers to make them softer and mimics the fiber bending process that the fabric undergoes when you've used it a lot.

This finishing process gives the fabric a much softer and more luxurious hand. It will be less prone to deep creases and have less linting. Shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration based on the fabric type ( thread size, count, weave type).

Does your open weave linen fabric still maintain the open weave look after washing and shrinkage?

I'm conflicted as to whether I should prewash. Can anybody tell me how much shrinkage? Like, how many inches per yard?

You will want to wash this before you sew your project to remove the shrinkage. Our shrinkage is based on our recommended wash instructions winch you will find in our help center. Please figure approximately 7-10% shrinkage which based on one yard would bring the width in to about 55 inches and the length to about 33 inches.

Honestly, it looks like burlap

I don't have a problem with rustic, but the open weave of this linen, combined with the color, result in a look very much like burlap. If you have ever seen the sacks that coffee beans are shipped in, this is pretty much the look. It's going to be difficult to find a project that works for this fabric--certainly nothing you mean to wear as a single layer, like trousers or a skirt that isn't lined.

I'm so glad the color matches the picture. I was so unsure of what it would look like. Even though they offer refunds, I don't think it would be worth it to ship it back & lose the shipping costs both ways. This fabric is pretty sheer. I planned to make a dress from it but not sure if that will work out? I am aware it was shared in the description... I love the color & wish they made more of the less sheer fabric this exact color. I can't really tell the difference between this premier finish but that's probably because I never get the 4C22 linen. I usually do 019 or 020 . Delivery was so quick including a holiday only took 3 days? (Ohio)

Perfect for the rustic or rugged look

Loved this remnant. Got two cut offs and made Daniella pants from Tina Givens, which I already made before in white softened linen. Now I have a wardrobe piece that goes with pretty much anything. Fabric is soft but very sturdy and is pleasant to work with. I recommend it. Color is prettier than the picture conveys, it's more of a latte color.

Zita profile image Perfect for Lace Shawls

Wearing this linen is like wearing a cloud. The linen is exceptionally soft, yet strong enough to showcase the lace remnants I use to make shawls.

I decided this would make the perfect gift for my sister, the really picky one. It was easy to make and was a very satisfying project. I was having problems getting the tassels to tie neatly so I sewed the pulled threads along the edge and used the needle to make nice neat tie-offs. I was a little worried it warp when I washed it but the edges still looked great.

This IL041 is perfect for a fringe scarf. I had never made one before, so I decided to try following Masha Karpushina's tutorial "Make a Fringe Scarf" on the Thread Blog. It was very easy, but that particular tutorial renders a scarf that is only as long as the fabric is wide. Such a scarf, draped over the neck, reaches my belt on either side. I prefer my scarves to be long enough to reach my thighs so I have lots to play with and can wear the voluminous scarf in many ways. Next time I will start with two yards of fabric and cut the length of the scarf on the grain line, parallel to the selvedge. In any case, once this IL041 is laundered, it is very soft and cozy against my skin. I'm pleased.

When I ordered this linen, I was rushing in the middle of the night and did not pay attention to the fact that it was not my usual IL019 but was rather an open-weave mid-weight linen. I was focusing on color and weight only! So when it arrived, I went ahead and pre-washed it to see what I had on my hands. I spent months reading about other linen lovers' projects using this linen. Most were making scarves as holiday gifts. I was determined to find a project that was more along the lines of a hooded poncho or part scarf, part jacket. A free tutorial called DIY Cocoon Cardigan from Melly Sews turned out to be the absolute perfect solution to use up less than one yard of my two yards. I'll slip this on over sleeveless tops and dresses, bring it with me to the cinema, and more. For more details, visit Kikipotamus on Sewing.PatternReview (dot) com.
