EXCALIBUR Linen's silent grey hangs in the very air of Gwen John's paintings, hovering around her lonely interiors like a dark, muffling mist. Best known for her portraits of pensive women in close tones of grey, brown and beige, John masterfully grasped the power of understatement, capturing private moments of reflection in these sitters that are laced with undercurrents of anticipation.

At 5.1 ounces this Open Weave 57 inch wide linen has a unique slightly sheer look and feel that sets it apart from other medium weight linens. Open weave does not make it less durable or versatile, just loosely woven.

This linen should be laundered in a cold wash-tumble dried on air setting or very low heat--line dry if possible.

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

Something new

I bought this from the doggie bag selection. It is my first time sewing with this and I am very happy with it. It is a very different material from the standard 019. This is a much looser weave and more coarse. Before washing and drying it I thought it was like burlap and I was somewhat skeptical of how it would sew-up. I made the Moroccan pants, but widened the legs hoping to end up with blousey, drapey pants. They are beautiful, just what I had hoped for and will buy more of this in the future. I love the texture and drape of this material. Thanks again for a great product.

Vickie profile image Great color!

First time I've tried this weight of linen and I find it to be a unique fabric, it's very soft after washing, has a loose weave that is light and cool and Excalibur is my new favorite of your gray linens. I normally wash and dry my linens before using, but because of the loose weave of this I decided to make a simple tank top just a little bigger and then wash. I used French seams, because of the fraying issue, washed on delicate cycle and dried in the sun, then fluffed up slightly in the dryer. My top turned out great, little shrinkage and very soft. I love this fabric! and Excalibur is a beautiful deep gray, I want more of this color!

Nice

I was worried at first when I ordered this fabric. It was kind of thick and scratchy at first. I was wanting it for a drapey scarf. But when I washed it. Wow. It is like a different fabric. Now it is soft and great.

If someone can tell this tech-challenged old person how to post photos upright, I'd appreciate it. They look fine, until I actually post. 🙃
