Linen is great for skin, water absorbency, and ease of garment care.
However, and I will be first to say, plain weave linen is too "flat" and not my first pick for items that need "snuggle volume".
Jacquard linen comes with "snuggle volume" but is just so heavy.

Having access to fabric engineers really helps... Allow me to introduce the double-sided IL028, 62 inch wide 100% linen fabric. Design created exclusively for F|S.

This cloth is only 6.6 ounces a square yard so just a smidge heavier than the All-Purpose medium weight.

How does it get the snuggle volume? The trick is in the weaving technique... the cloth is double sided. Not like reversible, but as in woven with two fabrics that are interconnected into one cloth throughout the surface area.

Once the fabric goes in the first wash and dry - if fluffs up everywhere the 2 sides aren't connected. It will shrink about 8% the weft of the fabric ( width-wise) and 8% warp of the fabric ( lengthwise). Shrinkage is based on a warm wash and low-heat dry.

You will feel like a creative genius when you pull the fabric out of the drier.

Double-Sided cloth is perfect for:

  • Robes
  • Placemats and napkins
  • Decorative Pillows
  • Pants and skirts
  • Jackets
  • Curtains
  • Bedding
  • Bags
  • and, of course, Throws

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

Not as pictured

Previously bought IL028 Golden Wheat/ Natural. The wheat color is as strong as the natural on reverse, truly two-sided. Expected similar effect from Indigo/ Natural. This "indigo" side isn't ugly, but almost a chambray of black and natural, reversing to solid natural. I still plan to make summer throws, turning the colored side to the natural with mitered corners.

I am a believer

Never thought of linen for a bath-robe. But when the email came in with a drawing of a robe pattern, I jumped in, and I am so glad I did. This fabric is a dream. Out of the package it was very stiff, but after the hot wash, it fluffed up and became so cozy, it was just begging to be worn. Indigo color is subdued, it leans toward gray. I was able to find a matching trim fabric, lucky me, and my daughter now has a cozy robe. Beautiful fabric, easy to sew and worth every penny. Don't hesitate!

Lindsey profile image Almost perfect

I love the way this feels and the way it washes up, however, this looks like black to me. I was hoping for just a touch more "indigo".

Two Tone Linen

I didn't know what to expect when I purchased this fabric in 3 different color options and when I received it, I immediately fell in love with the feel, color combo and it's weight. I'm planning on doing a throw for my living room and making color coordinating throw pillows. Definitely buying more to do a reversible jumper.

Absolutely gorgeous

I haven't sewn it up yet (it definitely wants to be the most decadent bathrobe ever) but the washing/drying process has left me with a fabric I would live in if I could afford it. Soft as silk, light, and the color is just amazing.

Modified Cara Pattern, I added a seam in front, pieced and partially lined sleeves (Because I was short on yardage) and I angled the pockets. I hope you will be stocking this double linen again, I love this stuff!

Just finished this Il028 in the pattern "Cara". Sewed one pocket instead of two. This turned out so comfortable. I washed the fabric, then pressed it very flat for cutting and seaming. Once finished I threw it in the wash again and it poofs up! I love this fabric!

2-yard robe project. First of all, I LOVED the fabric. After a wash it became fluffy and perfect. I would have never thought of using linen for a bath-robe, but this project made me a believer. Modifications: I didn't like the recommended finishing option for the neckline, so I purchased a matching linen-blend fabric to trim the robe. 1/2 yard did the trick - was enough to trim the front, sleeves and line the belt. I cut off the belt from the BOTTOM of the fabric, not from the side - didn't want to lose the bulk this way. Because I had fabric to spare, I added a hanging loop in the back and side loops to hold the belt in place. Definitely recommend the project AND the fabric.

Blue or Black?

Coin Purse This fabric was originally purchased to make a pair of jeans. I decided instead to make a skirt (still in progress -I'm rather slow) which was a poor choice as the fabric is too heavy for the drape require by the pattern. Live and learn. However, withe the scraps I have made several of these coins purses for a local insurance business. The fabric is working well for this project. (The pictures are distorted for some reason.) The fabric has been a dream to work with in both projects. I would buy it again.
