Dense networks of green unfurl across Henri Rousseau's tropical paradise, coloring grasses, plants and leaves with the juicy vibrancy of life. But with the richly enigmatic jewel tone of EMERALD Linen he creates mysterious pockets of darkness, where magic and danger lurk in the shadows.

Rousseau never left France, so his mystical jungle scenes are entirely imagined, but he made frequent visits to the Parisian hothouses, the natural history museum and the zoo, places that lit up his imagination with visions of another time and place. Describing the transformative power of the Parisian gardens he wrote, "When I step into the hothouses and see the plants from exotic lands, it seems to me that I am in a dream."

At a lighter weight of 3.5 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is woven with finer threads to give it a smoother appearance. Referred to as lightweight or handkerchief linen, this fine, but surprisingly sturdy linen brings new meaning to the term "sheer elegance".

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

It is a lovely dress our customer used her own pattern and she did not share the pattern with us.

In reply to the question about the lovely green dress pattern, it might be 1950s McCalls Sewing Pattern 9189. However, I'm just guessing.

Livia profile image Lovely fabric, but needs a change in plans

Beware that this green has a strong blue undertone. I had been planning to match it with yellows and browns. Then I pre-washed the fabric (with hot water) and a lot of the green muted and the bluer tones came out. I also bought Blue Apatite, and they are just a few shades different after washing. So now I'm thinking of using it with the Coral color.

So soft and special

The first thing I do when I receive my fabric is wash and dry it. At that point I make the decision what I will make. I am going to use this for a summer dress (pattern #1) and highlight with embroidery. I am in love with this weight linen. Wrinkles, no problem! They fall right out. Great way to get through this heat.

Love of linen.

I just completed a top out of this linen. I have yet to wear it, but it turned out beautifully. can't wait to wear it. Love the comfort of wearing linen. Have bought linen from fabrics-Store for years.

I made a self-drafted gathered skirt with a lining and it is so comfy and elegant. I also made the Phoebe tank with this fabric and it is fantastic for spring and summer days. The blouse in this picture was made with the IL019 Bleached linen as well.

I used this fabric to make a 1950s dress for a summer backyard wedding. It is beautifully light and floaty while still being easy enough to work with. Can't wait to get some more for other projects!
