Color was a vital component for the legendary Abstract Expressionist Helen Frankenthaler, allowing her to express deeply felt moods, emotions and memories with a rich and evocative language. Ambient greys tinged with lilac, like FALCON GRAY Linen, were a recurring favorite, which she would dilute into watery liquids and pour liberally onto her canvases so they would soak deep into the weave of the fabric, a pioneering technique that became known as the 'soak-stain' effect.
Resulting bruise-tinged marks and blooms invoke the moody, atmospheric light effects of landscape, suggesting a sun-streaked evening sky or flickering ocean waves. Esteemed art critic Hilton Kramer called this canny visual trickery "…landscapes distilled into a chromatic essence."

At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 59 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

Christi profile image Breathtaking color

A blueish gray, a bit lighter than I expected, with a ghost of purple...Was going to make outside work pants, too pretty for that. Most grays have a greenish tone, this is not dull.

Blue toned Gray a great Blender

Personally, I like to find another color that fits together with others, to make fewer items, that provide options to extend combinations, with fewer actual items needed. (Sustainability and more closet space!) so this shade works with black, a variety of blues and/or grays. Another good use is as an accent bias or for pockets or color blocking! *****

Here are 3 colors. Falcon gray, lower left by my knee, Prestige is the middle & Night Blue still folded. I'm overcasting the cut ends together before going in the washer. Just gorgeous colors.
