Dark, brooding and dramatic, the intense blue of COBALT linen was ideal for Renaissance painter Jacopo Vignali's heightened, operatic scenes.
A leading painter in the Florentine Seicento, Vignali's Baroque paintings were defined by flowing swathes of jewel-toned fabric in midnight blues and crimson reds; set amidst theatrical, directional light, these richly toned colors amplify the romantic agony and tragedy of his stories.

At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 59 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

Unless the item is in the doggie bag section where we sell first quality remnants we only sell in full yard increments.

Lovely material

I used the Cobalt Blue to make a Peppermint Magazine Everyday Dress. The fabric washes and drapes so beautifully. I'm new to linen, but this material sewed up quickly and easily once I was sure to finish/serge the edges. It works perfectly for this dress!

Great Shorts

I bought the Cobalt Blue and sewed a pair of Jules Pleated Shorts. They are very comfortable. The pattern was easy to follow. I used the instructions on the blog.

Loooove this color!!

I'm a newbie to linen, but when I sewed up a dress for a customer I WAS IN LOVE! Usually a cotton gal, I'm a convert. Bought white for a test for myself and then splurged on the Cobalt. Can't wait to get to sewing!

The Perfect Solution

Beautiful deep colour, a single hot water wash and line dried resulted in minimum shrinkage- maybe 1%. I combined this and IL020 in the same colour to achieve the level of fullness and drape for "If Kim Wore Clothes' Julia Puff Sleeve Maxi Dress. I used the IL019 for the bodice and the bottom of the full skirt, from the pintucks down (just joined with a vertical seam) and the armbands, then the IL020 for the puff sleeves and the top portion of the skirt, which is where the actual gathering is. It worked perfectly!!

Beautiful color

The cobalt blue is a beautiful blue, the quality of this linen excellent. I sewed a top with it last year. Can't wait to sew a skirt to go with it.

Etsy site- If Kim Wore Clothes, Puff Sleeve Maxi dress. I used the two weights of Cobalt. Also added inseam pockets, made it a little shorter and reduced the depth of the pintucks, and put elastic into the sleeve cuffs. Great pattern- lots of sewing to finish all edges etc, but very simple.

I used the IL019 Cobalt Linen to make some 'Jules Shorts' using Fabrics-Store's free Shorts pattern. It was easy to widen and lengthen the leg from the pattern, and the fabric was easy to sew. They're so comfortable I can't wait to make more! Link to the pattern: fabrics-store.com/sewing-patterns/jules-pleated-shorts-pattern
